More than half (57%) of Thais would like to treat their mother to a trip this Mother's Day, according to Agoda, one of the world's fastest-growing digital travel platforms (https://www.agoda.com/?site_id=1811392), in their 2019 Mother's Day Survey. The findings reveal that most of Thais would like to their mothers on a trip (57%), while 30% of the respondents chose to take their mothers to the restaurant and 9% will spend time with her at home.

When asked what their ideal domestic destination to celebrate Mother's Day would be, Chiang Mai topped the list, with 30%, while Thailand's famous beach destinations Hua Hin/ Cha-Am (22%) and Phuket (18%) come in second and third respectively. Pattaya and Samui (8%) claim the fourth spot together while Bangkok comes in at fifth place (4%).

There is no doubt Chiang Mai is the ideal destination to celebrate with mothers. The Northern city provides a relaxed ambiance and is a perfect place to create memorable moments. There are several activities to do with mothers such as worship at the stunning temple of Wat Phra Singh, explore the hip MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum and go for a walk on Tha Pae Pedestrian Street.

Given the choice of an international trip, Japan scoops the top spot for almost 6 out of 10 (59%) of the respondents. It has become one of the most popular choices for Thais when they want to travel abroad. The country offers appeals with its bustling shopping streets, delicious eateries, and remarkable scenery. Surprisingly, long haul destinations like America and Europe (18%) comes second beating Hong Kong (8%), Southeast Asia (6%), and South Korea (5%).

When asked what type of travel would they like to go with their mothers, the survey shows that most of the respondents favor nature (45%), follow by exploring art and culture, and urban areas by 26% of the respondents.

In terms of budget for this celebration, almost third of the respondents are willing to spend more than 15,000 THB (29%), contrasting with 26% who would spend between 1,001 and 5,000 THB. A quarter of respondents (25%) would want to spend from 5,001 to 10,000 THB.

For a budget over 10,000 THB, Agoda recommends bringing mothers to popular Asian cities such as Hokkaido in Japan, Hanoi in Vietnam, and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. A budget up to 10,000 THB enables to celebrate Mother's Day on a two-day trip to domestic destinations like Rai Mae Fah Luang in Chiang Rai, Koh Kood in Trat, and Montana Farm in Nakhon Ratchasima.
