The opening ceremony was hosted by Mr. Paolo Randall, Assistant Managing Director of Blue Tree Phuket, who welcomed all participants and Mr. Thammawat Wongchareonyos, President of the Phuket Provincial Sports Association (left), and Mr. Damrong Chaisena, Office Director. SAT Phuket (Sports Authority of Thailand, Phuket) (right) who spoke on the support and promotion plan for sporting activities in Phuket.The atmosphere at the event was lively even with the early start. The race started at 7:00 am at the Blue Tree Lagoon starting with the swim part of the Aquathlon. It was a beautiful sight as hordes of athletes swam around the Blue Tree Crystal Lagoon. This was then followed by the run around the Blue Tree Forest Park. We were also excited to have professional Thai triathlete, Kritsanapol Poonpai, (Turbo), who has competed in The SEA Games in Malaysia 2017 and the 2018 Asian Games, and we were honored for Turbo to participate in the first Blue Tree Aquathlon.
The Aquathlon went without any incidents and more importantly was super fun for the participants and the supporters. The last participants got to the finish line at around 9 AM. The winners of all categories received a trophy and all the participants received a one off special Blue Tree Aquathlon T-shirt and a Blue Tree Lagoon ticket, and it was considered a happy ending for everyone. The race distances consisted of 300m swim and a 1.5km run, a 600m swim and 3km run, and finally a 1.2km swim, 6km run. The event was open to beginners, amateurs and professionals, and both children and adults.The next Blue Tree Aquathlon will be held on September 16, 2023, giving all athletes a year to prepare.
