BMW i3

The BMW i3 is being introduced in Thailand for the first time at the 36th Bangkok International Motor Show. The general public is welcome to closely experience the highly-anticipated newcomer,

a pure-electric vehicle that is perfectly suited to cope with the growing challenges of urban mobility.

The debut showcase of the BMW i3 truly represents the dawn of electric mobility in Thailand.

Redefining urban mobility means thinking far beyond environmentally-conscious and agile driving. These considerations gave rise to the LifeDrive architecture concept, which was purpose-built specifically for the BMW i3. It is comprised of two modules; the Life Module and the Drive Module. Think of the Life Module as the passenger cabin, or greenhouse. It is the first-ever mass produced Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) passenger cell in the automotive industry, and is a major factor in the car’s efficiency. Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic is equally as strong as steel while being 50% lighter, and 30% lighter than aluminum. The result is an electric car that weighs about 1,315 kg with superior acceleration from 0-100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds.

Due to the lightweight, high-tensile strength of CFRP, the passenger cell has added protection while placing less strain on the battery, which allows for the use of a smaller, lighter battery that saves even more weight, reduces charging time and increases range. The light weight design of the Life Module also lowers the BMW i3’s center of gravity, making it a more engaging and dynamic car to drive. The Drive Module, which is constructed out of 100% aluminum, consists of the 22-kWh lithium-ion battery, electric drive train, MacPherson strut and 5-link rear suspension system and structural and crash components. The battery mounted in the rear, close to the drive wheels, gives impressive performance characteristics while also providing better traction.

Another benefit of the LifeDrive architecture concept is that there is no space-consuming transmission tunnel running through the center of the car, like in most internal combustion powered cars, because of the separate Drive Module. This gives the BMW i3 the interior space of the BMW 3 Series, while only having the footprint of the much smaller BMW 1 Series.

The world’s first electrically powered car with a range extender engine, performing this role via a 650 cc two-cylinder petrol engine developing 25 kW/34 hp. The range extender is used exclusively to generate electric power and to increase the car’s maximum range in day-to-day driving to around 300 kilometres. 0-100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer

The arrival of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer sees BMW expand its portfolio into a new model segment. The newcomer in the premium compact class skilfully blends comfort and functionality of space with the trademark BMW strengths of dynamism, style and elegance. Following on from the Coupé as the second member of the new BMW 2 Series range, the harmoniously proportioned Active Tourer combines compact dimensions on the outside with a strikingly spacious feel on the inside.

The versatile luggage compartment, whose capacity can be enlarged from 468 to 1,510 litres, and the 40:20:40 split-folding rear backrest fitted as standard exemplify this model’s excellent everyday practicality. Flexibility is further enhanced by a sliding rear seat, allowing either kneeroom or luggage space to be increased as required. One particularly smart touch is the foldable boot floor that conceals a storage compartment with a handy multifunction tray.

The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is being launched as the new BMW 218i Active Tourer M Sport, equipped with the three-cylinder petrol unit stands out for its exceptional efficiency and great performance abilities. With a six-speed automatic transmission with steptronic, the engine has a displacement of 1.5 litres, generates 100 kW/136 hp.

The newly developed chassis, comprising a single-joint spring strut axle at the front and a multi-link rear axle, combines agility and directional precision with excellent handling stability and suspension comfort

To maximize the on-road presence of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, an M Aerodynamics package, 18-inch M light-alloy wheels on the outside are complemented by an M leather steering wheel and specially upholstered sports seats in the interior.

BMW Concept X5 eDrive

The BMW Concept X5 eDrive succeeds in fusing the familiar brand of driving pleasure generated by the xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system and a luxurious ambience enshrined within an interior offering tremendous versatility of use with a plug-in hybrid drive system.

The BMW Concept X5 is equipped with a drive system comprising a 180 kW/245 hp four-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and a 70 kW/95 hp electric motor likewise developed by the BMW Group. The motor is supplied with power from a lithium-ion battery that can be charged from any domestic socket and has sufficient capacity to enable all-electric driving with zero local emissions for a range of up to 30 kilometres

In addition to the settings that can be activated using the characteristic BMW Driving Experience Control switch, three driving modes can be selected according to requirements and the situation at hand: intelligent hybrid drive with an optimal relationship between sportiness and efficiency (AUTO eDrive);

pure electric and thus local emission-free driving (MAX eDrive); and SAVE Battery to maintain the current charge level.

The high degree of flexibility drivers can enjoy when it comes to choosing an energy source is given an added boost by the charging cable that is carried in the vehicle. The battery unit is located underneath the luggage compartment, so that there is only a small loss of load capacity overall – the luggage compartment is able to hold two large suitcases or four 46-inch golf bags.

MINI Clubman Concept

Following its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, Thai MINI enthusiasts will have an opportunity to feel the touch of the latest MINI concept vehicle at the 36th Bangkok International Motor Show.

The MINI Clubman Concept comes across as sophisticated, cool and elegant. The iconic design is supplemented by high-quality details, plenty of space for functional features and selected materials. Refinement of the hallmark MINI styling ensures instant recognition, both on the exterior and the interior. The extensive colour and material concept redefines contemporary elegance and high-end quality in this segment.

For over 50 years now, MINI has stood for maximum use of minimum space. 26 centimetres longer and just under 17 centimetres wider than the current MINI Clubman, the MINI Clubman Concept applies this aspiration to a new class of automobile.

With the characteristic agility of the MINI proportions, the prolonged roof line clearly reflects the car’s extensive utility space. It also gives the silhouette a distinctive elegance, underscored by generous surfaces. The side view instantly conveys the qualities of the MINI Clubman Concept: a long wheelbase, flatly positioned windows and short overhangs reflect characteristic MINI agility.

The most striking rear elements are the characteristic split doors. The typical continuous door frame is no longer made of sheet metal. The door graphic itself provides the frame surrounding the entire rear section like a discreet bracket.

Along with the exterior, the interior of the MINI Clubman Concept has also grown to larger dimensions. With four doors and five fully-fledged seats, the MINI Clubman Concept offers plenty of space for the pursuit of an active lifestyle.

The unusual materials are especially worthy of mention: nubuck leather in a light Sky Blue, patent leather in rich Berry Red and black soft nappa leather ensure an exclusive interior atmosphere which is highly expressive. In between, elements in patinised silver add high-end accentuations.

The interior element of the MINI Clubman Concept with the most powerful presence is the leather-covered instrument panel. With a surround in blue limed ash grain and a white porcelain finish, the black upper section of the instrument panel has a hovering appearance. Indirect rear lighting of the gap reinforces this impression and gives the area in front of the driver and front passenger an extremely high-end ambience.
