Indonesia’s Directorate General of Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia (DIKTI) wants Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) to help in enhancing the academic qualifications and standards of faculty in their country. This sentiment was expressed by a three-member delegation from Indonesia, comprising of Dr. Yusuf Fuad of State University of Surabaya; Mr. Ridwan Anzib, Deputy Director for Qualification Affairs, DIKTI and Dr. Yusuf Yunardi,, Attache’, Education and Culture, Embassy of Indonesia, Thailand, during their visit to AIT 31 July 2013.

The delegation sought AIT’s partnership in offering Master’s and doctoral programs to Indonesian students, offering English language bridging program, and help in guiding doctoral students to publish in reputed international journals. The delegation revealed that DIKTI is partnering with universities in United Kingdom, Taiwan and New Zealand.

AIT’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Sivanappan Kumar stated that AIT is in a good position to offer support in all three aspects. Prof. Kumar highlighted that besides offering Master’s and Doctoral degree programs, AIT also offers other programs that could be beneficial to DIKTI scholars. This includes Master’s program leading to Ph.D., which students can complete in five years. AIT also offers Unified Bachelor-Master programs, where students can complete their Bachelor’s programs in their host university, and continue with the Master’s program at AIT.

Forty-seven students from Indonesia are currently enrolled at AIT, and 20 are studying under the scholarship program offered by DIKTI. Three faculty members at AIT are from Indonesia.
