Philippine Society of IT Educators visit AIT

Philippine Society of IT Educators (PSITE), the largest such body in the Philippines visited the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) on 25 May 2015 and expressed their desire to learn about various programs and offerings by AIT in the field of Information Technology.

Led by their President John Peter Abraham Q. Ruero, who is also the President of the Information Systems Security Association (Philippine Chapter), the 15-member team represented a virtual who's who of IT educators from the entire country. The PSITE President stated that their society acts as a forum for faculty development, promotion of IT education, sharing of resources, and helps IT-industry linkages. He also highlighted the society’s PEER (Partnerships, Educational initiatives, Extension and Research) program.

The delegation also brought two donations by the current and previous Board of Directors of AIT Alumni Association (Philippines Chapter) valued at 15,000 Thai Baht each for the AIT Library Modernization campaign. Ms. Maria Fe N. Ferriols, President, Beacon Solutions, read the citations on behalf of the AITAA (Philippines chapter) where they saluted AIT’s leadership and hoped that courtesy of digital technologies, the AIT library would expand beyond the physical environs of the Library Building.

Thanking the AITAA (Philippines Chapter) for their donation, Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto remarked that AIT is going beyond renovating its library, and is instead concentrating on a library modernization campaign. He also welcomed the visit by PSITE stating that not only is AIT extremely strong in the field of IT education and research, but it is also a core thematic area for the Institute, looking forward.

Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Director Fundraising and Interim Head, Alumni Affairs Office, informed AITAA that a special area for the AIT alumni is being demarcated in the AIT library.

Dr. Matthew Dailey of School of Engineering and Technology (SET) presented AIT’s research expertise in the field of IT. Dr. Jonathan Shaw, Executive Director, AIT Extension, and Dr. Naveed Anwar, Executive Director, AIT Consulting, informed the delegation of the work of their respective units, particularly in the Philippines. Prof. Voratas Kachitvichyanukul, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology (SET), and Dr. Gabrielle Groves Punyaratabandhu, Head, External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO) also participated in the deliberations.
