Adler Subhashok Gallery to showcase “Beyond a Shadow” by Attasit Pokpong

From January 16 – February 21, 2016, Adler Subhashok Gallery will showcase Attasit Pokpong's new collection of 20 paintings entitled "Beyond a Shadow", which were inspired and created during his 3-month residency in Paris, France.

A rising star in the Thai contemporary art scene, 38-year-old Attasit is making a prominent mark in the international art arena. His distinctive portraits are inspired by his fascination with the face of the Sino-Asian woman. Attasit's distinctive paintings are of a pop-art style characterized by strong colored lips that contrast the porcelain-delicate skin.

The "Beyond a Shadow" series plays on the connotations of shadows and light representing good, bad, evil and holiness. These elements are dependent on each other or otherwise they could not exist. Attasit calls to attention the viewer's feelings and own thoughts on the dark and the light. The woman's expression that hides in an opaque mist magnetically draws the viewer to her alluring mouth, embodying the feminine spirit – enigmatic nature, secretive strength and mystifying perceptions. She has something to say, but she won't tell. She wants the viewer to engage her mind and search for their own insights.

Adler Subhashok Gallery is located at 160/3 Sukhumvit Soi 39, and is open Tuesdays - Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., and on Sundays from Noon – 6:00 p.m.
