Thai-Bhutan collaboration for more skillful workforces supported by SCG and CIT

Bhutan and Thailand via SCG and Construction Institute of Thailand (CIT) in a significant collaboration to string out the relationship between two countries, by signing a memorandum of understanding that aims to collectively develop and increase skillful workers. The two countries hope to exchange knowledge and ideas, particularly in construction and building skills for a basic infrastructure in order to create a skillful workforces for Bhutan. The project is expected to start in the first quarter of 2017.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Mr. Sonam Wangchuk, Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Human Resources of Bhutan, Mr. Aree Chavalitcheewingul, Vice President – Regional Business of SCG Cement – Building Materials and Mr. Chakporn Oonjitt, Executive Director of Construction Institute of Thailand (CIT) in the presence of His Excellency Tshering Tobgay, the Prime Minister of Bhutan and Dr. Atchaka Sibunruang, Minister of Industry of Thailand.

Mr. Aree Chavalitcheewingul, Vice President – Regional Business of SCG Cement – Building Materials, said: "SCG really appreciates that the government of Bhutan has opened the door of opportunity for us to use our capability to develop skilled workforces for the Kingdom of Bhutan, by exchanging ideas and transferring experiences in building and construction work. This collaboration will raise the level of effectiveness regarding construction and building industry for both countries. With a purpose of creating a social and environmental sustainable development, I believe that we will be able to increase the quality of life for people and the economic value for both countries."

Mr. Sonam Wangchuk, Secretary, The Ministry of Labour and Human Resources, Royal Government of Bhutan, said: "Through this MoU, we are laying foundations for long and enduring partnership between MoLHR and the Construction Institute of Thailand & SCG. One of the main hindrance in the private sector development has been the shortage of skilled human resources."

In addition to, the collaboration with CIT- Construction Institute of Thailand under the Ministry of Industry of Thailand will also mark the government's purpose to empower Thailand's construction industry to meet a global standard in being accepted internationally. Mr. Chakporn Oonjitt, Executive Director of Construction Institute of Thailand (CIT), also said that this signing represents a strong relationship between The Kingdom of Bhutan and Thailand, not only the government but also the private sector and people. It also shows the commitment of The Ministry of Industry to bring Thai's industry into global stage.

Supporting cooperation with government to strengthen Thailand's building and construction industry is one of the SCG's determinations. This was shown by SCG being a member of public-private collaborative committee on competitive workforce or many projects that were run by SCG during the last 10 years. For example, the pilot project regarding creating technical workers for industries and the project which aim to increase a number of skillful workers to support the expansion of bi-lateral business agreement.
