AirAsia relays a heart-warming true story that took place just in time for the Day of Love. A 30 year old engineer proposed to his AirAsia flight attendant girlfriend right on the tarmac of Phitsanulok Airport while she was leading the airline’s Facebook Fans on a trip as part of the “True Love-True Merit” campaign.

The sweet event serendipitously took place during the airline’s annual Valentine’s Day activity, “True Love-True Merit”, where two lucky couples were chosen to go on a 2-day, 1 night merit making trip from “Phitsanulok-Sukhothai”. To enter the competition, AirAsia fans had to post their “True Love-True Merit” story to facebook.com/AirAsiaThailand. The activity was created to note this year’s Valentine’s Day which also falls on the religious Makha Bucha Day.

Flight FD3308 from Bangkok (Don Mueang) to Phitsanulok landed yesterday with its lucky participants in the Northern Province. As cabin crew member Arthitaya Srisopon or “Cartoon”, was taking part in a photo-taking session with the lucky winners, Pong Dithayam, a field engineer for Schlumberger Overseas appeared amongst the travelers with a bouquet of flowers and proceeded to kneel down and propose amid the cheering crowd of over 100 people.

Pong remarked that though his job as an oil drill engineer and Cartoon’s profession as a flight attendant meant they often had conflicting schedules. Her understanding and acceptance of this was what made their love stronger. The groom to be expressed that he wanted to take care of Cartoon and start a family with her. To make his proposal a memorable surprise, Pong garnered the assistance of both Cartoon’s friends and her company so he could pop the question upon his lover’s arrival at Phitsanulok Airport.

“The night before the surprise I could barely sleep. I tried not to talk to Cartoon because I’m not good at keeping secrets and I was worried she would find out. I actually prepared a long script but I was so nervous I didn’t remember it all. Nonetheless this was a very memorable experience,” said Pong.

Arthitaya said “I was assigned to serve on the flight as usual. Even though it was for the ‘True Love-True Merit’ campaign, which was for the two lucky couples from the Facebook competition, I didn’t think there would be any surprises. After I disembarked from the plane, I stopped to take photos with the lucky winners. I saw my boyfriend dressed up in a suit, approaching us on an AirAsia baggage trolley. He walked up to me and kneeled down before asking me to marry him! As he put the ring on my finger I couldn’t help feeling so excited and shy as this was taking place in front of all my friends and passengers”.

“I am very happy that he has chosen me to be his partner in life and I know we will cherish one another forever” Arthitaya remarked in closing.
