CNN's Senior Asia Corresponent Mike Chinoy has been to North Korea 14 times, more than any Western journalist of our time. From September 3 to 5, he takes you on a memorable journey to a country he describes as the world's most unusual place.
In his half-hour special, Chinoy takes viewers on a NORTH KOREAN JOURNEY which begins as soon as he boards the official flag carrier Air Koryo jet in Beijing, through to his departure from Pyongyang one week later.
Along his journey, Chinoy and his crew give viewers a glimpse of two North Koreas. One is the official face of this reclusive country filled with huge, Soviet-style statues and monuments as well as costumed dancers, acrobats and young soldiers in synchronized performances. The other is the North Korea that lives beyond the facade, where the people live a life of comformity imposed by an authoritarian regime, and as aid workers say, a regime which is on the brink of a major food crisis once again.
Chinoy speaks with North Korea's handful of resident foreign businessmen who are working to bring the country into the global economy. Lastly, he takes the people's pulse on their feelings toward the United States, which has been as much vilified in North Korea, as North Korea has been vilified in the West.
