Executives from Shin Satellite Public Company Limited and Vietnam Telecommunications International (VTI) today declared the IPSTAR Gateway in Hanoi, Vietnam, officially open.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Khanh, Managing Director of VTI said that the completion of this new IPSTAR Gateway would play an important part in fulfilling VNPT’s plan which had been approved by the Government to provide telephone services to all communes in the whole country in 2005.
Dr. Dumrong Kasemset, Chairman of Shin Satellite’s Executive Committee, announced the readiness of the Company to commence transferring bandwidth capacity to VTI, which is the sole National Service Operator for the IPSTAR broadband system in Vietnam. VTI is expected to use Vietnam’s IPSTAR bandwidth to extend the country’s communications infrastructure.
“IPSTAR is the most modern and efficient wireless broadband solution for our country,” Mr. Khanh said. “We believe it will assist us to close the communications gap in all parts of the country, especially in rural and remote areas. This helps us to pass a major landmark in our plans to provide telecommunications services wherever they are required.”
Dr. Dumrong Kasemset said, “The IPSTAR system could serve up to 180,000 subscribers in Vietnam. Our first overseas gateway is an important milestone in our plans for the region. Following the successful launch of Thaicom 4 (IPSTAR) in August 2005, we are looking forward to extending our coverage of Asia Pacific by opening gateways in a total of fourteen countries.”
