Just one year after Hurricane Ivan's brutal winds demolished four of its beachfront bungalows and severely damaged its piers, the renowned Southern Cross Club Fish & Dive Resort has completed all of its post-storm reconstruction efforts. Throughout the rebuild process, the management team used the opportunity to make numerous improvements and upgrades to the club's award-winning oceanfront property including the addition of a new 500 sq. ft. open-air dining pavilion and new seaside mini-spa, Island Moon Massage, adding five new beachfront bungalows and revamping its power, water and waste management systems to comply with the United Nation's Green Globe 21 (GG21) eco-friendly standards. To commemorate the completion of construction, the landmark resort is introducing a new Adventure Travel Package to all guests at a "steal of a deal."
Southern Cross Club's Adventure Package allows all new and returning guests who book a seven-night adventure trip between January 1st and December 31st, 2006 to receive 2003 rates along with a $960 activity credit (per couple) that can be used towards any professional fishing or dive-related activity provided by the club. As always, kayaks and island bikes are free for all so each guest can create their own unique Little Cayman adventure.
Highlighting the rebuild completion are the club's five new beachfront bungalows. Each bungalow features private, outdoor lounge areas with showers, oversized daybeds, extra-large patio decks and floor-to-ceiling windows offering picture book oceanfront views of the resort's coastal landscape and Owen Island, the small, uninhabited islet just off Southern Cross Club's shore. The new bungalows are equipped with brand new air conditioning units, though each dwelling is designed to maximize passive airflow from the cool ocean breeze coming off South Hole Sound.
Southern Cross Club's intimate new open air dining pavilion is set in the middle of the resort's 900 foot palm-studded private beach allowing visitors a wonderfully tropical alfresco dining experience. The menu features a diverse mix of island-inspired international appetizers, entrees and desserts prepared daily by the resort's widely acclaimed kitchen staff. Island Moon Massage, run by Terry "Captain Nemo" Thompson, offers an eclectic selection of relaxing massage therapies ranging from the standard Swedish massage to the ultimate sensory-pleasing Aromatherapy massage. Ideal for those guests planning a post-dive hammock ride, Thompson's signature Back, Neck & Shoulder massage loosens sore muscles in specific areas stressed by heavy Scuba tanks or dips in the stock market. Club guests can also take advantage of Capt. Nemo's mobile massage service, with all therapies offered in-suite or poolside.
Every year, the resort is recognized by Rodale's Scuba Dive Magazine as one of the "Top Ten Dive Resorts in the World" and included on Conde Naste Traveler magazine's list of "Best Dive Resorts." Today, the Southern Cross Club continues its legacy as the Cayman Island's premier boutique dive and fishing resort with 12 private, cozy beachfront bungalows spread over 900 feet of beautiful white sand beach. Southern Cross Club is Little Cayman's oldest original resort, offering a top-rated, professional and certified in-house diving and fishing operation from its own piers.
Southern Cross Club's vision is for Little Cayman to be a Green Globe 21 (GG21) destination, but for this the island needs the support of the Government. GG21 is the worldwide benchmarking and certification program that facilitates sustainable travel and tourism for consumers, companies and communities. It is based on Agenda 21 and principles for Sustainable Development endorsed by 182 Governments at the United Nations Rio de Janeiro Summit in 1992.
Resort packages start at $650 per person for a three-night stay including all meals, service charges, airport pickup on Little Cayman, use of the club's bicycles and kayaks, beach towels and a welcome drink of choice. For reservations and information, please call (800) 899-2582 or (619) 563-0017, or visit the resort online at www.southerncrossclub.com .
