Thailand’s Udon Thani province and The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET)’s TV subsidiary will co-host the ‘Money Channel Road Show’. This show is a unique event where families can learn more about savings and investment, through games and activities. They will also have a chance to win gold necklaces, satellite dishes and cash to invest in mutual funds, all together more than THB 100,000.
Money Channel, a TV station specializing in economic and financial matters, was initiated by SET to promote financial literary, SET President Ms. Patareeya Benjapolchai, said. She noted that it, Udon Thani Chamber of Commerce and Federation of Udon Thani Industries will co-host ‘Money Channel Road Show’.
The event, occurring twice this year, is part of SET’s investor promotion plan. Money Channel can be seen in Thailand on local cable TV networks, UBC 97, www.settrade.com and www.webhoon.com
“The show is a joyful, educational experience for all the family - children, students, parents, workers, and retirees. Nearly 20 organizations, including securities companies, investment management firms, listed companies, as well as SET and its subsidiaries, will be participating in the show in Udon Thani. They are going to provide advice, booklets and seminars, as well as staging a play for the children,” Ms. Patareeya said.
Mr. Ratchapol Laovanitch, Managing Director of Family Know-How Co., Ltd., which manages Money Channel, said that the event aims to sow a positive “investment culture” in communities, and is especially targeting the young with activities, games, lucky draws, and free pocket books.
“Currently people in Udon Thani and surrounds watch Money Channel on cable TV and through the Samart satellite. ‘Money Channel Road Show’ demonstrates SET’s emphasis on reaching out to households. The next road show, planned for early November, is to be in southern Thailand, in Songkhla province,” said Mr. Ratchapol.
Udon Thani Governor Mr. Jareuk Parinyapol said that the provincial administration is pleased to support this event, which gives people the education they need in a time of rapid change. It is essential that Thai households have effective financial strategies to boost savings and put their money to work.
The governor will be a guest panelist in a seminar entitled “Solutions for local businesses in a milieu of cross-border capital flows and political uncertainty”. The first 100 holders of RMF (Retirement Mutual Funds) or LTF (Long-term Equity Funds) to appear at the event will receive a free umbrella and be in the running for 3 prizes featuring unit trusts worth THB 20,000 each. The lucky winners will have the opportunity to present the project: ‘Put your money to work through mutual funds’.
