Mickey Mouse hosted a birthday party to remember today as thousands of guests donning festive hats and birthday badges joined Hong Kong Disneyland to celebrate one year of unforgettable magic.
Against the dream-come-true backdrop of Sleeping Beauty Castle, the Park’s majestic centre piece, over 50 smiling Cast Members and Disney characters came together to create a giant jig-saw-inspired birthday cake that saluted the city with a huge “Thank you Hong Kong” message.
During the ceremony, entertainer Jacky Cheung, Hong Kong Disneyland’s spokesperson placed the last piece in the birthday cake, and joined Bill Ernest, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Hong Kong Disneyland and King-Chi Au, Commissioner for Tourism, Hong Kong Tourism Board for a photograph in front of the giant cake, which measured five meters by four meters, and featured an image of a jubilant Mickey Mouse flanked by colorful streamers.
“We are always challenging ourselves to create new and exciting theme park and resort experiences for guests of the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort,” said Bill. “We are excited to see the continued growth during our Grand Opening year and are proud to be a part of the Hong Kong community. We extend our appreciation to the city and region for their support and look forward to being a part of the Hong Kong family for many magical years to come.”
In celebration of the milestone, guests were invited to enjoy the festivities with special chocolate cupcakes complete with “1” frosted on top to signify the resort’s first birthday.
