Trend Micro to post beta OfficeScan 7.8 to website with antivirus and anti-spyware supporting Microsoft Corp.’s Release-to-Manufacturing (RTM) candidate; joins previously announced PC-cillin beta for consumer testers of Windows Vista
Trend Micro Incorporated (TSE: 4704, NASDAQ: TMIC), a leader in network antivirus and Internet content security software and services, today announced the web posting of Trend Micro? OfficeScan? 7.8 beta, the company’s corporate desktop security solution. OfficeScan 7.8 beta will provide antivirus and other protections for Windows Vista, the next generation of the Windows client operating system, as it becomes available for Windows Vista. OfficeScan protects an organization's Windows Vista computers from viruses and malicious code, including file viruses, macro viruses, and malicious spyware, Java applets and ActiveX Controls.
Offered originally in May through participation with Microsoft’s Technology Adoption Program (TAP), the Trend Micro OfficeScan beta for Windows Vista beta version of Trend Micro OfficeScan 7.8 is immediately available for download through the Trend Micro public website at: http://vistaresponse.trendmicro.com
"Microsoft is committed to providing customers the most secure version of Windows yet with Windows Vista, and we see our partners as an important part of this commitment," said Mike Sievert, corporate vice president, Windows at Microsoft. "We're pleased that Trend Micro has stepped forward to add OfficeScan 7.8 beta for corporate desktops to its portfolio of available Windows client security products currently in development."
Within 90 days of the general availability for Windows Vista, Trend Micro plans to launch Trend Micro OfficeScan version 8.0 which, among other new and enhanced capabilities, will include full support for Windows Vista. But to support the range of customer types who will be purchasing or evaluating Windows Vista over the next several months, Trend Micro has been offering a PC-cillin? Internet Security beta for consumers as well as the OfficeScan 7.8 beta for business customers.
The OfficeScan 7.8 beta is based on the currently shipping OfficeScan 7.3, but with modifications to smoothly support the Windows Vista environment and eliminate conflicts with the new security features within Windows Vista. A beta of OfficeScan 8.0 will be offered in January and feature even tighter integration and include new enhancements to help enterprise customers combat everyday threats with better and simplified management for all types of endpoints. Customers are recommended to deploy OfficeScan 7.8 beta on a controlled Windows Vista environment and, when ready, 8.0 on a larger-scale Windows Vista production environment.
Windows Vista promises to deliver great value to businesses by seamlessly connecting people to information, enabling increased mobile and remote productivity, significantly reducing deployment and support costs, and providing a more secure and compliant desktop platform. Trend Micro OfficeScan offers Windows customers advanced features for centrally managing end point security on a company’s desktops, notebook computers, and servers. By enabling administrators to configure, monitor, and maintain desktop and server protection using a single console, OfficeScan improves and simplifies the administration and enforcement of corporate security policy.
“We are pleased to have worked closely with Microsoft during the Beta program of Windows Vista by ensuring that corporate and consumer customers using the beta and RTM can receive reliable malware protection from our TrendLabsSM researchers,” said Lane Bess, president, North American operations, Trend Micro. “Windows Vista customers can rely on Trend Micro’s long-standing security expertise for protecting their systems, just as we’ve safeguarded users of Windows client operating systems for nearly two decades. More than 220,000 downloads of the Windows Vista-compatible version of PC-cillin Internet Security for consumers prove the value to customers of client-side security solutions from Trend Micro that complement the additional security features in Microsoft’s new operating system.”
