Jet Airways (India) Ltd. today announced aggressive expansion plans for 2007 and beyond, which will propel it into one of the world’s leading airlines, in Bangkok, Thailand.
“It is indeed apt for us to be holding Jet Airways’ first international press conference of the year here in this beautiful capital city, because as you already know, Bangkok will become the 50th destination on Jet Airways’ network in exactly two weeks’ time”, stated Jet Airways’ Chairman, Mr. Naresh Goyal, who flew into town especially for the event.
On January 23, 2007, not only will Jet Airways launch direct, nonstop daily flights between India and Thailand, but it will also introduce a brand new Boeing 737-800 with winglets into the airline’s fleet, bringing the fleet size to 59. The inaugural flights from Delhi and Kolkata to Bangkok will themselves constitute a milestone event as it will be the first time ever that Jet Airways will operate inaugural flights from two metro cities in India to the same international destination on the same day. In 2008, Jet Airways intends to upgrade the aircraft on the Bangkok-Delhi sector to an Airbus A330.
“With the strengthening of economic ties between India and Thailand and consequent free trade agreements, there has been a marked increase in business and tourist traffic between the two countries, which requires enhanced connectivity, and Jet Airways will be fulfilling this need with 14 direct flights per week to Bangkok, seven each from Delhi and Kolkata”, explained Mr. Goyal.
Mr. Goyal also disclosed that Jet Airways' application for the allotment of traffic rights and frequency entitlements on various international routes were presently under consideration by the Government of India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation. However, Jet Airways has already been granted the requisite rights and entitlements for operations on the India/USA route, and plans to commence operating daily frequencies between Mumbai and Newark, USA via Brussels by August this year.
Although Jet Airways' plans for operations on other new international routes will be finalized only after allotment of the requisite traffic and frequency entitlements, the airline intends to spread its wings to cover China, Hong Kong, Canada and Africa in the very near future.
With the expansion of its international network, the airline will induct eight Boeing B777 ER aircrafts and five Airbus A330-200 aircrafts into its fleet this year. Underlining its desire to be the leader in offering the highest quality of service that is reliable, comfortable and efficient for its passengers, Jet Airways has also placed an order with Boeing for ten B787 Dreamliners, the most modern aircraft available in the world today. These B787 Dreamliners, in conjunction with the B777s, will bring a new level of world-class service as the airline expands around the globe.
