Nokia, the world leader in mobile communications, today kicked off a three-city Nokia Nseries roadshow in the Asia Pacific region to share its vision for multimedia, design, convergence and its internet strategy. Part of a global tour that covers nearly 20 cities around the world, the events in Bangkok, Jakarta and New Delhi will showcase Nokia’s latest multimedia computers — the Nokia N95 and the Nokia N93i — and experiences such as internet browsing, search and navigation, photo and video blogging, and music.
“The combination of our multimedia computers, offerings, applications, marketing and retail activities signify a 360-degree effort to give consumers an unparalleled experience from the moment they decide to purchase a Nokia Nseries multimedia computer,” said Mr Bob McDougall, Managing Director, Customer and Market Operations, Nokia (Thailand) Limited. “It’s about living the ‘connected life’ where basic interests and activities such as television, music, web browsing, photo-taking, video-capturing and playing games are always with the user, no matter where he is, and no matter where he goes.”
The key thrust of the event, according to Mr McDougall, is to educate users that the activities they engage in using their personal computers can also be done on high-performance devices such as the Nokia Nseries multimedia computers. Launched in 2005, the devices are mostly equipped with a high-powered in-built digital camera, digital music player, WiFi connectivity, web browser and a host of gaming, personal information management and business applications.
“From truly basic applications such as playing games, using the calculator, writing down personal or reminder notes or listening to the radio, to seemingly more advanced ones such as reading and editing word documents, powerpoints and spreadsheets, blogging, downloading and listening to podcasts, finding WiFi hotspots, browsing the web, using the device to navigate around a city, or even watching live television — the Nokia Nseries multimedia computer can perform all these functions with just a few clicks,” added Mr McDougall. “While keeping the long-time favourite applications intact, we will continue to introduce new applications and experiences that meet users’ most wanted needs.”
Mr McDougall also reiterated Nokia’s commitment to its internet strategy, highlighting the web-based and social networking applications that new Nokia Nseries multimedia computers will feature.
“Web 2.0 and user-generated content also reside in our core strategy, and our new devices, solutions and initiatives enable users to participate in these activities without having the need to connect to a PC,” he said.
Design continues to play an integral role in the Nokia Nseries strategy. Nokia will roll out more devices with a variety of styles and designs — slim, slide, monoblock, clamshell, and the Nokia Nseries shape that makes it easier for consumers to shoot videos or photos. The design of a Nokia Nseries multimedia computer will be based around the lead experience, such as imaging, music, internet browsing or watching live television, but each device will also bear the capabilities and applications of the Nokia Nseries family.
In January, Nokia launched the You Make It Reel video-blogging competition, encouraging consumers around the region to shoot a music video to the tunes of Greyskull, a punk-rock band from the United States, and blog it directly to the competition website. The highly successful initiative has attracted more than 2,000 registrations and almost 1,200 video uploads from participating countries — proving that consumers in Asia-Pacific have no reservations about creating their own content and sharing them on the internet via social networking websites.
To give consumers a more fulfilling search and purchase experience, Nokia will continue to launch more Experience Studios around the Asia-Pacific region. Having already set-up these highly successful studios — which enable consumers to test fully functional devices and find the ones that most suit their lifestyles — in Bangkok and Singapore, the studios will be manned by retail staff who will be trained in technology and connected living.
