Global Indian Foundation (GIF), Singapore and the Global Indian International School (GIIS), Thailand will organize a music appreciation workshop conducted by Shubha Mudgal and Aneesh Pradhan, two of India’s acclaimed musicians. This workshop will be from Monday 26th May 2008 to Saturday 31st May 2008 at the Indian Women’s Club (IWC) Activity Centre, Rama Mansion, Sukhumvit Soi 12.
GLOBAL INDIAN FOUNDATION MISSION: “To seek to nurture the best and brightest GLOBAL students into men and women, who will be leaders of distinction, committed to the spirit of excellence, through high quality education imparted by globally experienced and caring teachers building strong virtues and values while focusing on all round development, creativity and entrepreneurship”
Mr. Atul Temurnikar, Chairman of the Global Indian Foundation stated “I am pleased to inform you that the Global Indian Foundation Singapore & the Global Indian International School Thailand are holding an Indian music appreciation workshop by vocalist Shubha Mudgal and tabla player Aneesh Pradhan, two of India’s acclaimed musicians in Bangkok. GIF & GIIS are strongly committed to bringing these cultural exchange programs to benefit the Thai & Indian communities. We have been hosting such programs & workshops in the past in Singapore & elsewhere. Owing to the similarities of Thai & Indian culture & values, we felt that this is a good time for us to begin the introduction of such programs to Thailand”
Khun Chanatt Lauhawatana, Vice Chairman of the Global Indian International School Thailand added “We are very happy to see the response this workshop has received in Bangkok. In conjunction with the GIF Mission statement, GIIS schools will continue to provide not just to our students but to the entire community the opportunity to benefit from such cultural programs. Music & Dance transcends all languages, it is therefore hoped that all communities living in Thailand will benefit from such exchanges. There are many more to follow”
The Indian Music Appreciation Workshop is spread over 6 days from Monday 26th May 2008 to Saturday 31st May 2008 at the Indian Women’s Club (IWC) Activity Centre, Rama Mansion, Sukhumvit Soi 12. This interactive workshop will focus on special themes through which the artists will introduce participants to Indian music. Five teaching sessions will be conducted for the participants with a concluding presentation by the participants on the sixth day of the workshop. The workshop will thus incorporate practical and theory sessions that will provide an insight into the diverse genres of North Indian music.
Ms. Shubha Mudgal & Mr. Aneesh Pradhan stated “While our earlier workshops for the Global Indian International schools took place in Singapore, we were delighted when we were requested to conduct this year’s workshops at Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. Thailand and India share several cultural and artistic themes, as is amply clear in the mythology, language, food, and more. We hope that our workshop here will also encourage students to look at similarities and dissimilarities between the two cultures through music. We live in global times, and it is possible, now more than ever before, to explore these areas. This becomes even more relevant if one is living outside one’s own country.
On what they hope to achieve through this workshop, they stated “As always, we hope to share our passion for music with the students at the workshop. We are aware that everyone in any society may not have an aptitude for musical performance, and yet, we strongly believe that it is necessary to study music and other arts, to have a holistic education and to make our lives more meaningful by stressing on the intangible and abstract even while pursuing practical issues related to basic subsistence. We therefore do not ask the students to perform on the last day. The last day is more in the nature of a presentation by the students; they will present information that they have been able to gather and imbibe during the workshop, not just from us, but also from other textual and audio-video sources that we indicate to them. We hope that they will continue this effort even after the workshop”
Shubha Mudgal is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Gold Plaque Award for Special Achievement in Music at the 34th Chicago International Film Festival, Padma Shri from the Government of India 2000, an artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan (India's national television network), Shubha has performed extensively in several music festivals in and outside India.
