Bangkok--July10--UN
Recently finished was the Earth Summit +5. The event was a special session
of the UN General Assembly to provide a forum for Governments, NGOs, and
other major groups to review the achievements since 1992 and identify areas
where progress has fallen short of the expectations. One purpose of the
Summit was to reaffirm the proposals of Agenda 21, which was drafted at the
1992 conference in Rio de Janeiro. The proposals of Agenda 21 were to
reverse the effects of environmental degradation in the context of national
and international efforts to promote sustainable and environmentally sound
developments in all countries. It is a comprehensive and extensive programme
of action. This has been a major world-wide impacting summit. End.
