Despite some last minute cancellations among international buyers due to the country's State of Emergency announcement, those determined to visit the fairs were highly impressed by the products on display. BIG+BIH went on smoothly and the sales volume generated during the 6 days event was considered satisfactory. The fairs accommodated approximately 100,000 buyers from Thailand and overseas.
“The turn up was better than we expected” said Mr. Rachane Potjanasuntorn, Director-General of the Department of Export Promotion “And the overseas buyers who came to the fairs were core buyers who understood the nature of Thai politics and felt safe to travel to Bangkok. I personally think that the timing was on their side as they had the opportunity to pick latest products before anyone else while enjoying the bargaining power.”
During BIG+BIH April 2009, the fairground had been occupied by about 700 reputable exhibitors, all recognized by the Department of Export Promotion, Ministry of Commerce. Buyers showed particularly strong interest in newly launched products as well as prototypes for their creative designs and impeccable quality, while handicrafts were among the best selling items at the fairs.
The next Bangkok International Gift Fair and Bangkok International Houseware Fair are scheduled for 13-18 October 2009.
