Bumrungrad Group CEO named to list of “20 People Who Make Healthcare Better”

USA — Curtis J. Schroeder, Group CEO at Bumrungrad International hospital, was named one of "20 People Who Make Healthcare Better" by HealthLeaders magazine, a US-based health industry publication. HealthLeaders cited Schroeder for expanding Bumrungrad from a 200-bed private hospital to an international system of 85 facili-ties in seven countries, caring for over 2 million patients each year.

Schroeder brought his international hospital management experience to Thailand in 1993, when he was hired by Bumrungrad to engineer the company’s expansion. He led an ambitious building program that made Bumrungrad’s Bangkok campus the largest private hospital in Southeast Asia. When the Asian financial crisis threatened in 1997, Schroeder responded with the international marketing strategy that has made Bumrungrad the world’s most popular destination for medical travelers.

HealthLeaders credited Schroeder with teaching the organization the power of team-work and decentralized management. "It took me five years, along with some very good help, to begin to change the culture—for our Thai and Asian staff to take risks and express opinions freely,” Schroeder said in his HealthLeaders interview.

Bumrungrad hospital was recently named one of the 10 most desirable employers to work for in Thailand, based on an online survey by Business.com magazine.
