“Inter-Media” indicates car market trend will be buoyant in second half of 2010 with production exceeding 1.5 million units, resulting in the record-breaking feat of 35 car brands participating in “THE 27th THAILAND INTERNATIONAL MOTOR EXPO 2010”. Toyota books the largest display area, followed by Honda, Mitsubishi and a trio of upmarket brands of Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and Ruf. IMPACT meanwhile has invested over 100 million Baht in expanding car parking facilities which will finish in time for the Motor Expo to accommodate 15,000 cars.

Kwanchai Paphatphong, Organizing Chairman of “THE 27th THAILAND INTERNATIONAL MOTOR EXPO 2010”, reveals that car market trend will peak again in the second half of this year as it is anticipated that full-year domestic car sales can expand to 700,000 units while car export may soar to over 830,000 units, raising total production to 1,500,000 or even 1,600,000 units, an expansion of 50-60% over last year, which will be record figure representing across-the-board growths in all types of automobiles. The anticipation is based on the economy recovering in the third quarter due to reviving consumer confidence, better agricultural output compared to the beginning of the year, and moderate oil prices which should all help the automotive industry to grow and meet its target.

“THE 27th THAILAND INTERNATIONAL MOTOR EXPO 2010” area reservation session has been successful beyond expectation. Already 35 car brands have booked display spaces, compared to 32 brands last year. Interestingly, upmarket names like Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and Ruf from Germany have also decided to participate this year.

The car company that booked the largest display area of 1,600 sq. m. is Toyota Motor Thailand, followed by Honda Automobile (Thailand) — 1,480 sq. m., Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) - 1,400 sq. m., Mazda Sales (Thailand) — 1,360 sq. m., Chevrolet Sales (Thailand) — 1,280 sq. m. and Hyundai Motor (Thailand) — 1,200 sq. m.

“This year visitors can prepare themselves to be bedazzled by a variety of interesting activities — the Automotive Innovation Award will be held for the first time this year, several car companies are going to exhibit prototype cars or debut new models complete with attractive promotional packages. The market trend is towards Ecocars and every company is confident the economy will recover at the end of the year and car sales will be just as thriving as last year,” said Kwanchai.

The Organizer has reviewed the relevant rules and regulations pertaining to booth construction with the construction contractors and car cleaners so that all contractors have the same understanding. Shields of Honour will continue to be given to the most beautifully designed and decorated booth, the booth that most tangibly expresses the Expo Motto “UNIFY…CREATE EARTH-LOVING VEHICLES”, and the company best able to control booth sound level up to the Expo’s standard.

The number of locations equipped with an instrument for measuring sound pressure level has been increased from 5 to 15, each continuously monitoring the local sound level and sending signals to the central control room for efficient control and management of noise pollution in the Motor Expo for the benefit of visitors and fairness to all exhibitors. Cooperation in the development and setting up of this system has been given by the staff of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace, King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok. The Pollution Control Department has admired the success of the Organizer in noise control saying that it reflects good service, is environmentally friendly and should be emulated by other merchandise show supervisors or organizers.

Kwanchai added that IMPACT as proprietor of the venue and facilities has also been gearing up for the Motor Expo by investing a hefty sum of 100 million Baht in the construction of 2 additional car park buildings, resulting in a total of 6 open parking lots and 3 indoor car parks, altogether capable of accommodating 15,000 cars. In addition, traffic CCTVs have been installed for management and control of traffic in the locale to help reduce traffic congestion.
