Jetstar maintains Japan flying

Wednesday 23 March 2011 16:51
Low fares leader Jetstar continues to maintain its existing, strong flight schedule between Australia and Japan in the aftermath of the tragic earthquake and tsunamis which struck northern Japan less than two weeks ago.

As the largest airline serving the Australia to Japan route, Jetstar continues to operate up to 25 weekly return services to Tokyo and Osaka, through direct flights from Cairns and the Gold Coast, which also offer connections to Australia’s southern states.

Commencing today Jetstar will revert to a daily direct service to Tokyo (7 per week) whilst expanding up to 3 time daily return services to Osaka (up to 18 per week).

Jetstar Group CEO Bruce Buchanan said the airline group’ had a long term commitment to the Japanese market.

“Jetstar is maintaining our capacity on the Australia-Japan route whilst improving the effectiveness of our Japan flying operations at this important time,” Mr Buchanan said.

Mr Buchanan said Jetstar was temporarily redirecting its daily Gold Coast-Tokyo A330 service (Flight JQ 11 and Flight JQ 12) to instead operate Gold Coast-Osaka.

As a further result, minor flight re-timings would occur to enable effective connections for fast train services for Jetstar customers arriving into or departing from Kansai International Airport in Osaka, allowing onward travel to destinations including Tokyo.

Affected customers are being contacted by the airline to make arrangements for any altered travel plans in Japan, and Jetstar’s flexible arrangements for travel to/from Japan remain in place due to the situation in Japan and status of travel advisories.

Jetstar’s current two-class A330 flight schedule to Japan between Australia-Japan is:

JQ11/JQ12 Gold Coast-Osaka-Gold Coast Return (daily)

JQ19/JQ20 Gold Coast-Osaka-Gold Coast Return (daily)

JQ25/JQ26 Cairns-Tokyo-Cairns Return (daily)

JQ15/JQ16 Cairns-Osaka-Cairns Return (4 times weekly)
