SCG Chemicals joined hands with Thammasorn Group, the manufacturer of DOS water tank, and Thai Beverage to launch ‘Drinking Water for Flood Sufferers’ project, supplying drinking water dispenser unit to Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s flood relief centers to tackle the shortage of bottled drinking water.

Mr. Yuttana Jiamtragan, Managing Director, SCG Polyolefins Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of SCG Chemicals, said that “drinking water is one major supplies provided by several organizations as part of flood relief efforts and it comes in different forms of packages — from bottle, tank to plastic bag. Currently some parts of Bangkok are facing the shortage bottled drinking water as the factory of some drinking water producers is in flooded areas, transportation routes are damaged, and even more, the hiking consumer demand which is over ten times as much when compared normal situation, for purpose of donation to flood sufferers and for household stock for future consumption.”

To efficiently manage long-term drinking water supply at time of crisis, SCG Chemicals joined hands with Thammasorn Group Co., Ltd., the manufacturer of DOS water tank, and Thai Beverage Plc., a major supplier of bottled drinking water, to set up the “Drinking Water for Flood Sufferers” project to supply drinking water dispenser unit at temporary flood relief centers. With dispenser unit, people living in the center can bring their own bottle for refill anytime. This encourages people to reuse their water bottle and helps reduce the amount of disposable water bottle garbage in the relief centers.

“Currently the project has supplied drinking water dispenser unit to 10 temporary flood relief centers in such locations as Ratchamankala National Stadium, Kasetsart University, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, etc. One unit will be donated to Princess Pa Foundation, Thai Red Cross Society in support of the foundation’s mobile kitchen project. We are also coordinating with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration in distributing additional 50 water dispenser units to other flood relief centers across Bangkok. Thai Beverage will constantly supply drinking water in the dispenser unit,” added Yuttana.
