MasterCard Announces 1.6 Million Baht Donation and Collaboration with Customer Banks to Implement Fee Waiver in Support of Thailand Flood Relief Efforts

Interchange Fees Reduced to 0.00% for Donations Made to Thai Charities using MasterCard cards Issued in Thailand

MasterCard Worldwide announced that it will provide support for the Thailand relief efforts following the extensive flooding in October. In collaborations with its Thai customer banks, MasterCard is implementing a 0.00% Charities rate that waives interchange fees on all donations to Thailand-based charities made using Thailand issued MasterCard cards from November 4, 2011 to February 4, 2012.

In addition to waiving interchange fees, MasterCard will also donate 1.6 million baht to the Thai Red Cross Society to aid flood relief efforts.

“We are working with our customer financial institutions and local associates to lend support to people who are affected by the floods and ensure that the money donated through MasterCard cards — with 0.00% Charities rate — reaches flood relief foundations in full amount,” said Gregg Hirano, vice president & country manager of Thailand, MasterCard Worldwide.

“Our thoughts and well wishes are with the people in Thailand during this difficult time."
