The event, a joint initiative by CIMB Foundation and CIMB ASEAN Research Institute (CARI), is aimed at developing future leaders with concern for regional issues, particularly in relation to ASEAN Community 2015.
“This is yet another way that we demonstrate our commitment to ASEAN. This region must strengthen political, social and economic ties between its constituent nations and for that we need future leaders who appreciate the importance of integration and are inspired to make it happen," said Dato’ Sri Nazir Razak, Group Chief Executive, CIMB Group.
“At CIMB we have found that diversity in thinking and ideas, combined with a healthy culture of openness and debate, brings about the best and most creative solutions. The CIMB Young Leaders ASEAN Summit will be such a platform for the next generation to learn about regionalization and to put forward their ideas for ASEAN," Nazir added.
The CIMB Young Leaders ASEAN Summit 2012 will see young leaders from all 10 ASEAN countries and feature conference speakers that include representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat, Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Singapore and CARI.
On the first day of the Summit, delegates will receive training on current ASEAN issues, whereas on the second day delegates will assume the roles of ASEAN leaders; discuss issues relating to the region, and produce a resolution to be presented on the ASEAN Business Club Gala Dinner to be held on 18th September. The resolution is also expected to be read in the next ASEAN Summit in March 2013 in Cambodia.
