Couples around the world planning to wed this June are encouraged to consider coming to Phuket and be married in the unique traditional Peranakan style during the Phuket Baba Wedding 2014 event, which is being organized during 21 – 23 June, 2014 by the Thai Peranakan Association in cooperation with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Phuket City and the Blue Elephant Cooking School & Restaurant Phuket.

The Phuket Baba Wedding 2014 package is priced at Baht 39,900 per couple, and includes accommodation for 3 nights, sightseeing, the “Pang Tae” traditional Peranakan wedding ceremony at Hongsyok House, and a gastronomical wedding feast and cultural entertainment in the elegant historic Sino-Portuguese mansion of the Blue Elephant Cooking School & Restaurant Phuket on June 22nd.‘Baba’ or ‘Peranakan’ are terms used to refer to the descendants of the late 19th Century Chinese immigrants who settled in Phuket around 200 years ago. A Baba wedding traditionally used to be a statement of the wealth and social standing of the family, and was regarded as one of the most important ceremonies in a Baba’s life.
