On 4 December 2014, Ass. Prof. Maj. Gen. Dr. Chainarong Cherdchoo, President of Nuclear Society of Thailand and vice chairman of SETA 2016 with Board of Nuclear Society of Thailand, met Dr. Narongchai Akarasanee, The Minister of Energy who will also deliver an opening keynote at SETA 2016, and the executive of ministry of Energy.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss cooperation in the implementation and promotion of nuclear energy and its benefits, for greater understanding by the general public. Since Thailand has a high energy demand that continues to increase, nuclear energy is important to prevent future energy shortages and the technology developments will help prepare nuclear power as an alternative in the future.

Nuclear power has the capability to produce high volumes of electricity with less environmental impact than other sources, and advances in nuclear power technology have also increased its security. With the current energy sources employed today likely to be priced higher, nuclear energy offers a cheaper, cleaner alternative.

Many countries have developed nuclear power technologies for generating electricity, including France, UK, Germany and the USA. Despite the accident at Fukushima, Japan, which suspended nuclear power development, this will in the near future be turned back on.

Nuclear Society of Thailand is another agency that is the driving force in the development of cooperation in science and technology to develop knowledge of nuclear power. In cooperation with other countries, Thailand will benefit through collaboration between the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Transportation and Ministry of Science and Technology.

"Sustainable Energy Technology Asia 2016" (SETA 2016) is an international conference and exhibition that will investigate energy and sustainable technologies in Asia, through discussions in Energy Policy and Planning, Electrical Systems Technology, Transportation and Alternative Fuels and Sustainable Energy and Green Technology. SETA 2016 will take place at BITEC Convention and Exhibition, Bangkok on 23-25 March 2016.
