GPSC is progressing on its roadmap so-called ‘Big Win’ – investing in mega projects in ASEAN countries, which will hugely contribute to its growth and stable income – together with project partners, paying a courtesy visit to Thailand’s Minister of Energy to seek support on the coal-fired power station project in Myeik and a transmission line supplying electricity from Thailand to Myeik and nearby areas.

Previously, Myanmar Ministry of Electric Power (MOEP) issued a letter to Thai Ministry of Energy seeking supports for the consortium led by Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited (GPSC) – a power flagship of PTT Group and one of Thailand’s leading producers and distributors of electricity, steam and utilities – to conduct feasibility study of the coal-fired power station project in MyeikTownship, Tanintharyi Region.

Following up on such introduction from MOEP, recently, Mr. Wisate Chungwatana, Vice President – Business Development 1 of GPSC, together with representatives from the consortium which include Mr. Katsumi Miyamoto (General Manager, Overseas Power Project Dep-II of Marubeni Corporation), Mr. Thana Putarungsi (Acting President of EGAT International), Mr. Pramuanchai Taweesedt (Managing Director of SRI Synergy); and Mr. Ye Min Aung (Managing Director of Ayeyar Hinthar Holdings) paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Narongchai Akrasanee, Minister of the Ministry of Energy, to make introduction of the consortium and seek guidance and support on the feasibility study and development of the coal-fired power plant project in Myeik Township with a capacity of approximately 2,000 MW. The electricity generated from the project is intended for supply to both Thailand andMyanmar, which will improve system stability and strengthen economic developments between the two countries in accordance with the government’s policy.

“This project is one of GPSC’s growth-focused strategies so-called ‘Big Win,’ emphasizing on investing and developing sizable projects both domestically and regionally to leap frog the growth and at the same time a stable revenue stream. This consortium is formed based on the capability and experience the each partner bring together to execute such large-scaled project properly in all important aspects. Having a competent and strong team, we are able to proceed quickly to realize the project when consents are obtained from both Myanmar and Thailand. Such project is planned to become online from 2023 onwards.

In addition, Ministry of Electric Power of Myanmar has assigned the Consortium to conduct a feasibility study of the transmission line project from Prachuap Kiri Khan Province of Thailand to supply upto 100 MW to Myeik Township and nearby areas to address the near-term local demand in electricity while the implementation of the coal-fired power plant is not yet completed in order to spur the local economic development and border trade between two countries. Such additional opportunity were also presented to seek guidance and support in this same occasion.” said Mr. Noppadol Pinsupa, President of GPSC
