ASEAN-WEN LEEO discussed with partners in Vietnam to speeding stop the illegal wildlife trade

Mr.Vatanarak Suranartyuth, Director of ASEAN Wildlife Enforcement Network Law Enforcement Extension Office (ASEAN-WEN LEEO) participated the cooperate meeting with CITES Management Authority of Vietnam and Royal Thai Police at Hanoi, Vietnam. Ms. Ha Thi Tuyet Nga, Director of CITES Management Authority of Vietnam is the coordinator of this meeting.

ASEAN-WEN LEEO introduces the useful technique to fight against environmental crimes and Vietnamese government supports the idea by develop Operation COBRA to be the Project COBRA. This will create the legal global communication channel, coordination, defense and increase crime suppression among 62 member countries of the Operation COBRA. This global project is aimed to build a sustainable network; each member country will maintain good coordinator by assigned the International Coordinator and National Coordinator and be able to follow up cases in timely manner.

The proposed of the meeting is to stop illegal wildlife trade between Thai, Lao and other countrie in ASEAN, raise awareness, reduce the demanding of wildlife and wildlife products and preparation for Memorandum of Understanding between these three agencies for legal intelligent exchange and secondment (the detachment of government official from his or her regular organization for temporary assignment elsewhere. Secondment will benefit all sides and will improve understand of the organization, system, culture, and enforcement.
