The Advisory Board meeting for 'Asia Power Week 2016,' Asia's premier power industry event organised by global event expert PennWell Corporation, was recently held at the Plaza Hotel, Seoul. 'POWER-GEN Asia,' 'Renewable Energy World Asia,' and 'POWER-GEN Asia Financial Forum' will converge under the name of 'Asia Power Week 2016' on 20-22 September at KINTEX, Ilsan.

Over 45 board members from right across Asia attended the meeting to review and select abstracts and identify speakers in preparation of the event's conference programme. The Advisory Boards are comprised of high-profile representatives from institutions and companies, researchers, and professors within power-generation, renewable energy, and finance industries across South Korea and around the world.

With close to 300 abstracts submitted and the quality of them being very high meant the Advisory Board members were spoilt for choice when selecting the abstracts for presentation at the event. Promoted under the event theme of "Exchanging Knowledge – Generating Solutions," this year's event has four tracks for POWER-GEN Asia ('Trends, Projects and Planning,' 'Grid Integration and Distributed Power Systems,' 'Power Plant Technologies,' and 'Optimizing Plant Operation'), and separate tracks for Renewable Energy World Asia, and POWER-GEN Asia Financial Forum.

In addition to abstract selection, attendees also discussed about the overall conference programme, key note speakers, and panel sessions. The key topics to be covered in this year's conference include: climate policy and its implications for fuel choices, advances in energy storage, large gas turbine technology developments, latest operation & maintenance strategies, grid parity for renewables and their effective grid integration, infrastructure financing in Asia and the successful mitigation of project risk.

Erik Zindel, an Advisory Board member from Siemens Ltd. Seoul, commented: "Korea is an interesting location for Asia Power Week. There is a significant amount of business going on in the Northeast Asian region, particularly in Japan and China, and Korea's geographical location at the centre of this region, coupled with a significant industrial base of suppliers, OEMs and EPC companies means it is ideally placed to draw together all the region's power industry players."

The Director of Asia Power Week 2016, Dr. Heather Johnstone, stated: We were quite overwhelmed with the number of Advisory Board members who took time out of their busy schedules to join us in Seoul, especially as many are based outside of Korea. I would also like to thank the representatives of Korean companies, many of whom attended our Advisory Board meetings for the very first time, for their valuable input into the informative discussions that took place."

Pennwell Corporation, the organiser of 'Asia Power Week 2016' and well-known for its POWER-Gen brand, is hosting the event for the first time in South Korea, the country with one of the most advanced technologies in the field. Having expertise in the global energy and power generation industry, it aims to bring a world-class conference as well as vital business and networking opportunities to Korean power-generation companies as well to SMEs within the power-generation and renewable energy industry. The 2015 event took place in Bangkok last September, attracting over 8,300 attendees from power-generation, electricity, renewable energy, and finance industries as well as over 250 industry leading companies from around the world, all of which were event records.
