Friday 06 December 2019 09:30
It is hard to believe that a whole year has already passed and it is nearly time again for Denla Fest 2019! Denla Fest is a very special event in the Denla British School (DBS) calendar, as it is an opportunity for the whole school community, from students and staff, to parents and families, to come together in celebration. This year's event will be fundraising for two very worthwhile charities, Kids Action for Kids and Rainbow House, and promises to be even bigger and better than last year! The event features live music performances from students in Year 1-9, as well stalls and activities run by staff, students and parents, and food and drink stalls provided by Friends of DBS and some external vendors.

The theme of this year's event is 'The Gift of Giving' – a theme that reflects the ethos of DBS and something that the school strives to instil in all its students. Students are encouraged to be thoughtful and generous, and have an understanding of the world around them. They are expected to understand their responsibilities and role within that world to truly make a difference and become future global leaders. DBS also places high status on the performing arts, and the event will showcase the wealth of creative talent in the school,

from musical performances, to the products and gifts student create and sell as part of the stalls, to students helping with the stage management and event planning. These experiences enable young people to develop their creative thinking and problem solving skills, which in turn helps to equip them for their future careers.

Denla Fest will comprise of the following four areas:

The Main Stage (Sports Hall 3):This will feature live performances from students across Years 1-9.

Activities Area (Athletics Track):Students and families will be able to take part in activities such Bouncy Castle, Basketball Shootout, Face Painting and buy gifts and presents.

Food Court (Sports Hall 2):This will be the area in which to seek refreshments.

Soi Dao or Lucky Draw (Sports Hall 3):Visitors will have the chance to win a range of fantastic prizes by hooking baubles from the Christmas Tree.

"As DBS is a premium international school, we nurture our students so that they can be skilled-up, happy and fulfilled. We promote academic excellence, good judgement and leadership. Denla Fest 2019 represents the implementation of a combination of skills that students have learned in class, CCA and ECA, whether it's performing arts, communication and social skills, or an entrepreneurship mindset. We are immensely proud of our students. They are lively, healthy, happy, talented, and generous," Mr. Mark McVeigh, DBS Principal concludes.
