"GED" donates medicine for home isolation patients in support of Nonthaburi's proactive COVID-19 test scheme

The proactive approach taken by Nonthaburi, a red-zone province, has resulted in lower than 500 new infected cases per day and below 50,000 accumulated patients. Despite the significant improvement of the situation in the past two months, the province continues to have full hand. To help Nonthaburi province take care of infected patients, Great Eastern Drug (GED), a leading local pharmaceutical company, has donated "Solmax" cough relief medicine and other medical supplies to the province for distribution to home isolation patients.

Mr. Suchin Chaichumsak, Nonthaburi Governor, said, "With our proactive measure, Nonthaburi province has improved our community isolation (CI) centers and enable them to work independently. Those centers can do swab tests by their own medical staff. We have local quarantine system to support people waiting for RT-PCR tests. Medical labs here can provide RT-PCR test result in 24 hours, which is much faster than 3-4 days previously. Once the test result is obtained, we can immediately do chest X-ray. We have increased the capacity of the 3 field hospitals to accommodate more patients. Each field hospital has its own oxygen generators. At the same time, community hospitals and main hospitals have all received 200-300 more oxygen high flow machines from the Ministry of Public Health.

"Thanks to the concerted efforts from local and central authorities as well as private sector, Nonthaburi province can manage the pandemic to some extent. We wish to thank GED for the medical supplies donation."

Pharmacist Jaroen Wongariyakavee, OTC Sales Director, Great Eastern Drug Co., Ltd., said that the donation of Solmax cough relief medicine and other medical supplies to Nonthaburi and other provinces was part of the company's corporate social responsibility activities launched earlier this year to celebrate GED's 60th anniversary.

"We concentrate on home isolation patients because cough, sore throats and mucus are common symptoms found in many of green COVID-19 patients," said Jaroen. "Faster access to the right medicine will surely shorten their recovery period. We have therefore worked closely with Nonthaburi province and other areas in ensuring that the patients and medical staff are well taken care of by our cough relief medicines, COVID-19 test kits, PPEs and other medical supplies."

Dr. Roongrutai Mualprasitporn, MD, the Nonthaburi's head of Public Health Office, added, "The situation has been significantly improved. We see a smaller number of patients in the hospitals and home isolation program. However, we cannot yet be too relaxed."

He recommended everyone to continue strict universal prevention measures, including keeping social distancing, avoiding crowded areas, always wearing masks, frequently washing hands and regularly checking body temperature. If a person has fever, cough, running nose, loss of smell and taste, it is recommended the person to immediately use antigen test kit (ATK) or RT-PCR test. If the test result is positive, the person should report and register for community isolation or home isolation program. Nonthaburi province will deliver medicine, food, a thermometer and an oximeter to the patient and follow up on daily basis. Medical staff will see them at home or through telemedicine system. In case the condition is worse, the patient will be sent to a field hospital or other hospital.
