Art is one of the most important pieces of evidence in the telling of an individual's past and their memory of each era. Central: The Original Store, a new cultural center located in the historical area of old Bangkok where Central Group's first retail store was established on Charoen Krung Road, proudly presents for the first time this contemporary painting exhibition, the '1973' series. A debut collection of acrylic artwork influenced and inspired by stories and memories from the childhood of Tawan Wattuya, an internationally renowned Thai painter, the hand behind brightly colored oil paintings and acrylics, one, especially, a unique watercolor painting torn from the frame and without rules. Those interested, can visit and reserve their desired artwork found on display from November 10 - December 12, 2021 on the 4th floor at Central: The Original Store.

The '1973' series exhibition memorializes Wattuyu's experiences of life beginning in 1973, the year he was born. The interesting things in this series are the artist's paintings that imagine the prosperity in 1973 with all the artist's influences including comics, superheroes, wars, monsters, engines and music through pop culture, the culture of the masses.

It is constantly changing, never stopping, connecting to our daily lives. It is a culture born from the diversity and blending of different cultures. In this exhibition you will find 10-12 art pieces, each a work of art, especially created by the artist utilizing acrylic painting techniques exclusively for this exhibition.

Tawan Wattuya is best known as a painting artist with outstanding and thought-provoking watercolour works. His applied methods are evident in his skillful conveyance of prosperity in a colorful and dynamic contemporary Thai society. He consciously chooses to view his homeland from a distance, studying the social and political situation from afar in order to better explore with depth and understanding both his hometown and the various places he encounters. It is clear that Wattuya's paintings are poetic, personal, but nevertheless provocative in terms of his critical engagement with current issues. He is considered today one of Thailands' most unique and engaged painters. From an ordinary artist, Tawan Wattuya became known in the Thai art community from the solo exhibitions, the "500" Sarazine Gallery in 2005 and Siamese Freaks in 2007 leading him to gain increased popularity until eventually becoming a leading artist at the national level. Since then, his works have been exhibited extensively in galleries and art festivals both home and abroad including his solo exhibition, Rogues Gallery: Monsters, Villains & Hellbent Politicians (New York , USA, 2018); Queen (Tokyo, Japan, 2019) and Hatch Art Project (Singapore, 2019 & 2021). Wattuya has also participated in exhibitions such as "Escape routes" (Bangkok Art Biennale, 2020), as well as conducting solo and group exhibitions in countries including France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, China and Taiwan. His work has attracted the attention of a very international art circle .

This time, Tawan Wattuya is ready to present the '1973' series and open for art-piece reservations from November 10 - December 12, 2021 at the rotating exhibition area on the 4th floor at Central: The Original Store, from Tuesday to Sunday, between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Admission is free throughout the event.
