Grab Thailand is pilot launching its new business, Digital BagAds, a mobility LED digital advertising displayed on delivery-partners' bags to seize opportunity from the resurgence of Out-of-Home (OOH) media as Thailand's COVID-19 situation is continually improving. Equipped with IoT technology, the BagAds is designed to become an alternative channel for marketing and advertising, while providing additional income opportunities to delivery-partners. Firstly introduced in the Greater Bangkok area, the newly-launched OOH media come with three key selling points, namely accessibility to mass audiences, compatibility with different ads formats, and affordable rate. The Company aims to increase the number of the media to 200 bags of delivery partners by the end of this year.

Alejandro Osorio, Country Head of Grab Thailand, said, "As a leading superapp, in addition to providing multiple services that respond to today's consumer needs such as ride-hailing and on-demand delivery services, Grab also has an advertising unit or GrabAds that provides advertisers with multiple channels, such as in-app advertising, branding and product sampling via the Grab ecosystem, for building awareness, engaging audiences and triggering action across the Grab platform. Our online-to-offline advertising solutions have gained popularity and positive feedback from marketers and advertisers in Thailand."

"Today, we are pilot launching a new Out-Of-Home media called Digital BagAds that brings the Internet of Things (IoT) technology to leverage the equipment, create new business opportunities, as well as, to provide an additional source of income for our delivery-partners. We've seen this opportunity in the soaring demand for food and package delivery services that made our delivery-partners with their delivery bags increasingly become the significant touchpoint that is visible and widely accessible to consumers in all areas. This is in line with the growing trend of outdoors and transit media which started to recover as people go out and spend their time out of home because of the relaxation of containment measures as the outbreak situation improved. According to the Media Agency Association of Thailand (MAAT), the advertisement spending for OOH media in 2022 is expected to grow by 6 percent, with a total value of THB 6.25 billion. That's why we decided to introduce the BagAds as an alternative channel for brands to advertise and engage with consumers."

Grab's Digital BagAds comes with three highlights as follows.

  • Accessibility to mass audiences: With the mobility of Grab delivery-partners in providing food and parcel delivery services to consumers via motorcycles in all areas, the Digital BagAds can be reached to any targeted groups widely, whether it be in their homes, on the roads, or even down the alleys.
  • Compatibility with different ads formats: With the IoT technology, the Digital BagAds is designed to support both still image ads and videos, allowing brands or advertisers to adjust their digital advertisements as preferred and set the airing time in real-time.
  • Affordable ad rate: During the pilot period, Grab offers a special monthly package of Digital BagAds, starting at only THB 18,000 with the operation of 20 delivery-partners.

"Currently, the Digital BagAds is available only in Bangkok and vicinity areas, and we aim to increase the number of the media to 200 delivery-partners within this year. Our focus would be the young consumer-targeted brands from various categories such as beauty, FMCG, technology, entertainment, and fashion. We really hope that the Digital BagAds will become the new advertising channel that touches the urban consumer life and helps the brands to achieve their business goals," Alejandro concluded.
