Mr. Wichiene Ngamsukkasemsri, Managing Director of Mitsubishi Electric Factory Automation (Thailand) Co., Ltd. reveals, "In the past few years Mitsubishi Electric and our Ecosystem Alliance has been continually developing and promoting digitalization in the manufacturing sector to accelerate decarbonization supporting business sustainability and their carbon neutrality targets. One key driver to adopt this is the imminent "carbon tax" that shall be included as part of the overseas tariff barrier, especially in the EU and USA which is Thailand's number 1 export market.

In this regard, the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO) has notified the Thai industries that by 2025, all organizations will be subject to a carbon tax, and thus Thai businesses must expedite studies and investment in the decarbonization of manufacturing processes. Decarbonization requirements also prescribe a standard for systematic data collection of greenhouse gases in manufacturing operations. To maintain trade viability and improve competitiveness in the world market as well as retain overseas clients, leveling up operations to comply with more stringent environmental standards is required. The plastic and rubber group of products is one of the industries that is impacted by the carbon tax.

The participation of Mitsubishi Electric and the Ecosystem Alliance at the Plastic & Rubber Thailand 2023 is our collaboration to help drive world-class sustainability in the plastic and rubber industry with digitalization and decarbonization. To offer guidance on mitigating the aforementioned carbon tax, we demonstrate how our digital innovations and technologies can be applied and customized as solutions in each industry.

Mitsubishi Electric also introduce the SCADA GENESIS64(TM) smart software to support the management of greenhouse gas emissions in various industries with real-time display of carbon emission simulations in daily, monthly, or annual time frames. This is a powerful tool to support the optimization of manufacturing operations and energy consumption to ascertain that greenhouse gas emissions will be within set standards to qualify for carbon tax exemption, reduction, or even conversion to carbon credits that can be sold to other factories that might have exceeded their carbon limits. This software can also compute outstanding carbon tax expense and carbon credits revenue."

The Mitsubishi Electric pavilion also showcases digital technology demonstrations, and a pilot factory and offers consultation in the Digitalizing & Decarbonizing Ecosystem activity zone. A seminar is also organized under the concept "Drive SUSTAINABILITY in Manufacturing by DIGITALIZING AND DECARBONIZING for Plastic Industry" with Mr. Veera Kwanloetchit, President of the Plastics Institute of Thailand, and Mr. Kraisri Phankitnirundon, Senior Vice President Strategic Planning and Sustainability Department, Corporate Strategy Planning and Business Development IRPC Public Company Limited, honorary guests. Mitsubishi Electric Factory Automation (Thailand) Co., Ltd. organizes these activities aiming to support leveling up of the Thai manufacturing industry towards world-class modern digital manufacturing automation standards. The results shall be improved operational efficiency and energy reduction to offer short-term and long-term operating cost reduction.

Achieving these goals will thus improve competitiveness in the world market. Mitsubishi's e-F@ctory concept is committed to supporting businesses embarking on their carbon neutrality journey towards realizing sustainability. In addition, our SCADA GENESIS64(TM) software is the perfect tool for Thai businesses to mitigate carbon tax in the near future.
