Villeroy & Boch, one of the world's leading premium brands for ceramic products, has partnered with designer Gesa Hansen to develop the "Colour Wheel" - a concept which supports consumers with exciting insights into chromatics and tips for selecting colours to create a cosier and more homely atmosphere in their bathrooms. The journey begins by choosing the shade that sparks instant appeal to you from the Colour Wheel before exploring a world of colour, ideas, and tips.
Pantone trend colour 2023: Viva Magenta for your bathroom

Take, for example, Viva Magenta - a descendant of the red colour family, which was named by the Pantone Color Institute a new trend colour of the year 2023. The Institute describes Viva Magenta as a vibrant, electrifying red that radiates pure joy and self-confidence - and encourages experimentation. The Colour Wheel can inspire consumers on how to incorporate Viva Magenta into their bathroom aesthetic, lending the space a warm, blissful air and imparting a feeling of comfort and security. It is a shade rooted in nature and is reminiscent of the sumptuous warmth of a summer evening: spirited, audacious, optimistic and perfect for experimentation.

Colour expert Gesa Hansen shows how to use this shade to the best effect. The German-Danish designer has long since discovered the value of warm red shades and prefers using them in the bathroom to transform the often cool atmosphere of this space into a homely cocoon and a statement room.

Hansen says: "Colour can completely overturn the laws of perspective in a space. Colour can change almost everything: the atmosphere, dimensions, or definition of a room. Used correctly, colour can create amazing effects. Colour can make a bathroom look bigger, more welcoming and cosier - or the opposite!"

She recommends starting with the washbasin when introducing colour in your bathroom - for example, combining a red Artis washbasin with deep red, Bordeaux walls, terracotta tiles and monochrome accessories. The trend can even be applied to the bath, with Colour on Demand giving bathtubs colourful panels in vibrant shades of red.

However, Viva Magenta's appeal extends beyond the bathroom; it's the ideal shade to add colourful highlights all over the house. Red glasses, porcelain with magenta-coloured rose blossom decor, table lamps or textiles can be combined endlessly to add finishing touches to interior design. The harmonious selection is the golden rule to incorporating any accent tone, whether combined with one or two other colours. A monochrome scheme can produce a stunning impression when individual colour nuances are applied, although to ensure a calm atmosphere, only one colour nuance should be used, and accessories are an easy way to adapt and incorporate new shades into the scheme.

Georg Loers, CEO, Villeroy & Boch Bathroom and Wellness says: "We view the words 'bathroom' and 'wellness' as being intrinsically linked because premium products transform bathrooms into wellbeing oases where you can recharge your batteries every day.

"When you look into the bathroom area, there's more intimacy, you're alone, and you want to relax. Our portfolio encompasses the full spectrum of products required to create comfortable bathrooms: from high-quality ceramics to beautifully crafted baths, exclusive whirlpool tubs, clever shower systems and innovative installation technology."

Alongside various shades of red, Villeroy & Boch have also launched light blue-grey Frozen, lush-green Forest and dark-blue Deep Ocean to create a sense of peace and clarity in the bathroom.
