The expected long El Nino which will reduce lower agricultural production, the planned carbon tax collection by the EU, and Thailand's carbon tax bill are expected to have increased the importance of business to achieve Net Zero. In terms of laws and regulations, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), a measure under EU's green revolution policy, will begin its transition period on 1 October 2023 and become effective on 1 January 2026. In Thailand, it is expected that the carbon bill will be completed next year.
The legal moves in Thailand and other parts of the world have confirmed that Net Zero policy is unavoidable for the business sector. New business model has to be considered despite higher costs.
"The arrival of El Nino and intensive tax laws have confirmed that business operators must take action now. Environmental issues have to be addressed immediately otherwise they will have serious impact on business operations worldwide," reiterated Chaiwat.
