The delivery of dehydrated organic waste is one of the activities stemming from the memorandum of understanding between QSNCC and DCCE. The objective is to promote and support waste management at the source by utilizing dehydrated organic waste from QSNCC in environmental research and academic services. Furthermore, this initiative aims to disseminate knowledge to community enterprises, fostering long-term environmental sustainability.
M.R. Swasdivudh Svasti-vatana, Executive Vice President - Corporate Affairs of N.C.C. Management and Development Co., Ltd., the operator of QSNCC, said, "QSNCC is pleased to continue its collaborative agreement with DCCE in promoting and supporting event food waste management. Embracing the principles ofa circular economy, we create value from food scraps by transforming them into dehydrated organic waste. These resources are optimally utilized and shared with the community to feed Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL), which play a crucial role in decomposing organic waste and producing fertilizer for plants and vegetables. This not only generates income for the community but also contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions resulting from waste, ultimately fostering environmental sustainability for the entire community and society."
Over the past year, QSNCC has been effectively processing food waste through dehydration, increasing its value and optimizing benefits for community enterprises. During this period, QSNCC successfully forwarded more than 10,000 kilograms of dehydrated organic waste to DCCE and local community enterprises. This initiative has significantly improved the efficiency of the recycling process and waste reduction, aligning with a zero-waste approach. Furthermore, it has bolstered income while trimming expenses for community enterprises.
This endeavor has resulted in a remarkable reduction of food waste at QSNCC by a staggering 55,797 kilograms, equivalent to planting over 15,686 trees annually. Moreover, it has made a substantial contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by over 141,174 kgCO2e per year.
Panya Warapetcharayut, Director of the Climate Change and Environmental Research Center (CERC), remarked, "DCCE has been actively adhering to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which call for every country to collectively halve food waste by 2030. This offers a substantial opportunity for DCCE and QSNCC to collaborate, aligning with the UN's mission to reduce food waste as a means to combat global warming. It's a collaborative effort that significantly contributes to the achievement of the sustainable development goals."
