The Shell Company of Thailand Limited, led by Ms. Ornuthai Na Chiangmai, Deputy Country Chair, was recently honored with an Excellent Award in the category of Conservative Energy for Creative Building (Retrofitted Building). This recognition was presented by the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) under the Ministry of Energy at the Thailand Energy Awards 2022 event. Presiding over the ceremony was Mr. Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, who joined the event held at the Grand Ballroom of the Rama Gardens Hotel in Bangkok.
Shell won Thailand and ASEAN awards for its Creative Energy Saving Building.

Ms. Ornuthai remarked, "The Thailand Energy Awards stand as a source of immense pride for Shell, reaffirming our unwavering commitment to continuous development. We strive to provide high-quality energy solutions to drivers while demonstrating our steadfast dedication to environmental responsibility and aligning our operations with people's daily lives. The renovation of the Shell Headquarters Building not only underscores our aspiration to set an example on a modern energy-efficient structure, but it has also earned well-deserved recognition from the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE). We are honored that the project was selected to represent Thailand in a prestigious contest and achieved the Winner of Zero Energy Building in ASEAN for the Best Practices Awards for Energy Efficient Buildings Awards at ASEAN Energy Awards 2022.

In renovating its headquarters, Shell has seamlessly aligned the building with its operational objectives, prioritizing energy efficiency. The renovation preserved the original structure while making significant enhancements to comply with the "Shell WorkWELL Standard," which includes ergonomic principles, safety standards, efficient space utilization, and energy conservation. This initiative plays a pivotal role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from Shell's operations, thereby aligning with the 'Powering Progress' strategy's goal of achieving net-zero emissions.

The design of Shell Thailand's Head Office (Shell Building 1) emphasizes accessibility, openness, and extensive natural lighting. This design strategy significantly reduces dependence on artificial lighting, resulting in 20.84% energy savings, equivalent to 811,000 kWh annually. Additionally, the installation of solar cells on the building's rooftops and parking areas is projected to save an extra 1,075,943 kWh per year.

The building has switched to LED bulbs and introduced a Smart Lighting system that automatically adjusts lighting output based on occupancy and ambient light level entering the building. Additionally, the centralized air conditioning system (AHU) has been upgraded for improved efficiency. The building now features a fresh air ventilation system with an exhaust fan motor, ensuring the inflow of fresh air and balanced ventilation throughout the internal and external areas of the building. These enhancements ensure the air quality within the building consistently meets established standards.
