In the past year, the Bank of Thailand (BOT) has prioritized identifying sustainable solutions for the issue of household debt, stating that Thai household debt is a long-term structural problem and is likely to continue to rise. Despite the ratio of household debt to GDP has decreased gradually on the recovery of the economy, and the expansion of borrowing may slow after remedial measures for COVID-19 end, the ratio of household debt is still considered high. The BOT, therefore, is focused on ensuring financial institutions to have urgent measures in place to enhance responsible and fair credit management as well as asking for cooperation in helping to encourage debtors' financial discipline with improved financial management skills.
