R. Lamar Durrett — Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Air Canada
R. Lamar Durrett is Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Air Canada. He joined Air Canada in 1992 as Executive Vice President Technical Operations and Corporate Services. Prior to taking up his current position as CEO on May 14, 1996, he was Executive Vice President, Corporate Services and Chief Administrative Officer. Previously, Durrett held senior positions at both Delta Air Lines and Continental Airlines. He also served as President and CEO of System One, Continental's computer reservations subsidiary. Durrett is a graduate of Auburn University and is a member of the board of Governors of IATA. He is based at Air Canada’s Montreal headquarters.
Rod Eddington — Executive Chairman, Ansett Australia
Rod Eddington is Executive Chairman of Ansett Australia, a post he has held since January 1997. A Rhodes Scholar, from Western Australia, Mr. Eddington taught for a year at Oxford University before joining the firm of John Swire & Sons in 1979. While with Swires, he worked with Cathay Pacific Airways in Hong Kong, Korea and Japan, in a variety of roles, before being appointed Managing Director of the airline in 1992. After joining Ansett, Mr. Eddington was appointed Deputy Chairman of News Limited, and he sits on the Executive Committee of News Corp.
James E. Goodwin — President and Chief Operating Officer, United Airlines
James Goodwin will assume the position of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of United Airlines on July 13, when Jerry Greenwald retires. Currently, Mr. Goodwin is responsible for all operational groups including Flight Operations, Fleet Operations and Onboard Services, as well as United's key markets, North America, International, Shuttle by United, and Cargo. Previously, he has served as Senior Vice President - North America, Senior Vice President - International, and Senior Vice-President - Maintenance Operations. He joined United in 1967 as an accountant, and has held a variety of managerial positions in reservations, finance, marketing and operations. James (Jim) McCrae — Managing Director, Air New Zealand Limited
Jim McCrea is Managing Director of Air New Zealand. He was appointed Chief Executive of the airline in 1991 and joined the company’s board a year later. At the age of 17, he joined Tasman Empire Airways Limited, the antecedent to Air New Zealand, as an engineer’s apprentice. He spent the next 26 years moving up the airline’s engineering ranks before joining a corporate executive team working on the restructuring of Air New Zealand. He continued to gain management experience in all areas including flight operations, passenger and cargo service, airline planning, and sales and marketing. He is also the Deputy Chairman of Ansett Holdings and Ansett International. He is a member of the world Travel and Tourism Council and of the New Zealand Tourism Board.
Kichisaburo Nomura — President and Chief Executive Officer, All Nippon Airways Co., Ltd.
Kichisaburo Nomura is President and Chief Executive Officer of All Nippon Airways Co., Ltd. He joined ANA in 1959, upon graduating from the Faculty of Law at Waseda University in Tokyo. By 1970, Mr. Nomura had joined the ANA management team, with postings in Maintenance and Personnel, and in 1983 he was named to the board of ANA as Senior Director in charge of personnel issues. During his time as a board member, Mr. Nomura has been responsible for Marketing and Sales, Associated Business Development and Corporate Planning. Directly before being appointed to the position of President and CEO, he was Senior Managing Director and General Manager Eastern Japan.
Fernando Pinto — President and Chief Executive Officer, Varig Brazilian Airlines
Fernando Abs Da Cruz Souza Pinto is President and Chief Executive Officer of Varig Brazilian Airlines, a position he assumed in January 1996. Formerly, he was President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of RIO-SUL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Varig. Mr. Pinto graduated in Mechanical Engineering before joining the Varig group in 1972. He went on to hold a number of senior positions with the company. In 1988, he transferred to the airline's RIO-SUL subsidiary as Technical and Operations Director. In May 1992, Mr. Pinto was appointed to the position of President at RIO-SUL. In his position as President and CEO of Varig, he is based at the airline's headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.
Jan Stenberg — President and Chief Executive Officer, Scandinavian Airlines System — SAS
Jan Stenberg is President and Chief Executive Officer of Scandinavian Airlines — SAS. He joined the company in April 1994 from the L.M. Ericsson telecommunications group where he was Executive Vice President and a member of the group's corporate executive committee. Mr. Stenberg earned a law degree from Stockholm University. He is based at Scandinavian Airlines' offices in Stockholm. He serves as Chairman of the Board of SAS International Hotels A/S, Norway, the SAS Commuter Consortium, Telia AB and the Swedish Air Transport Industry Employers' Association. He is also a member of the board of directors of British Midland PLC, The Swedish Employers' Confederation, and a member of the Supervisory Board of Lufthansa German Airlines.
Thamnoon Wanglee — President, Thai Airways International
Thamnoon Wanglee is President of Thai Airways International. He was appointed to this position on October 1, 1993. He attended Assumption College, Bangkok, and went on to gain a bachelors degree in business administration after continuing his studies in the United States at the University of Pennsylvania and Marshal University, West Virginia. He joined Thai Airways International as Chief of the Accounting Division, after returning to Thailand to work first with Chase Manhattan Bank and then the East Asiatic Company. He went on to hold a number of senior positions at THAI, and became Senior Vice President, Finance and Accounting Division, before assuming his current position. In April 1996, Thamnoon Wanglee was appointed a Senator with the Thai Government, and in 1999 he was awarded the Knight Grand Cross (First Class) of the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant. He is based at THAI's headquarters in Bangkok.
Jurgen Weber — Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Lufthansa German Airlines
Jurgen Weber is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lufthansa German Airlines. Mr. Weber studied aeronautical engineering at Stuttgart's Technical University, and remained at the university after receiving his degree to work in aerospace design. He joined Lufthansa in 1967 and went on to hold a number of senior positions within the airline's engineering department. The airline's Supervisory Board announced his appointment as Deputy Member of the Executive Board in 1989 and elected him Chairman in May 1991. Mr. Weber is based at Lufthansa's headquarters in Frankfurt. End.
