National Oil Balance January-February 2005

Mr.Pongpayak Sathienpakiranakorn, Vice President of Corporate Public Relations Department, PTT Public Company Limited reports a National Oil Balance of January-February 2005 as follow:
1.Demand
In 2005, Thailand’s petroleum demand (exclusive of feedstock for petrochemical sector) increased by 10.2% from last year to 1,220,800 barrels per day (b/d).
1.1 Products
Consumption of refined oil products averaged 776,000 b/d, an increase of 6.6% over the previous year. Demand for diesel oil 383,300 b/d up 10.7%; gasoline 138,100 b/d up 4.5%; fuel oil 105,500 b/d up 1.7%; aviation fuel down 2.2% to 75,600 b/d LPG up 7.3% to 73,100 b/d and kerosene decreased 10.7% to 400 b/d.
1.2 Natural Gas
Demand for natural gas grew by 17.2% to reach 444,800 b/d. Of the total, 178,000 b/d was used for power generation of EGAT, increased by 6.5%; 224,500 b/d was used by IPP (Independent Power producers) and SPP (Small Power Producers) increased by 30.38% and gas demand for industries increased by 3.4% to 41,200 b/d; and demand on Natural Gas for Vehicles (NGV) increased by 302.2% to 1,100 b/d.
2.Procurement
On the supply side, petroleum procurement averaged 1,501,100 b/d, up 5.2%.
2.1 Overseas sources
Import oil totaled 970,500 b/d up 5.7% from the same period of last year. Import products were crude 791,900 b/d, increased by 3.3%; natural gas from Myanmar 153,100 b/d, increased by 56.5%; and refined products 25,500 b/d, decreased by 52.4%.
Thailand’s only refined product imported in February this year was 25,500 b/d of diesel, increased by 4.9%. The total cost of imported refined product was Bt. 3.549 billion, up 10.94% from last year or equivalent to Bt. 350 million. Such increase was due to the rising demand as well as the temporarily shut down of some refineries for maintenance.
Total crude imported from the Middle East was 641,600 b/d, increased by 1.8%; from the Far East 104,200 b/d, decreased 16%; and from other sources 46,100 b/d, increased 269.1%. The total cost of crude oil bills was Bt. 79.254 billion, 23.21% higher from last year or equivalent to Bt.14.927 billion.
Meanwhile, the total cost of natural gas imported from Myanmar was approximately Bt. 8.499 billion, an increased of Bt. 3.451 billion or equivalent to 68.37%.
2.2 Indigenous sources
Domestic sources provided 530,600 b/d of petroleum, up 4.4% from last year. Supplies of indigenous petroleum were 371,300 b/d of natural gas increased by 3.9%; crude 94,200 b/d, increased by 12.7% and condensate 65,100 b/d, down 3.3%.
