Cisco today said that will be focusing its efforts in the rest of its fiscal year 2008, which ends on July 26, 2008 on three key areas — on government, small and medium businesses (SMBs) and channel partner enablement. The company recently reported worldwide revenues of US$9.8 billion for Q2 FY 2008 for the period ended January 26, 2008. This represented a year on year growth of 16.5 per cent over Q2 FY 2007. Cisco’s revenue in Q1 FY 2008 was US$9.6 billion, a growth of 17 per cent year on year.
While the company does not report revenue by geography, product bookings in Asia Pacific, excluding Japan, grew by around 23 per cent year on year in Q2 and growth year on year in the high teens in Q1. Cisco’s product bookings in Thailand for the combined Q2 and Q1 period saw double-digit year on year growth
“Our Connected Life vision for Thailand is progressing very well, especially among our enterprise and service provider customers. We are now going to turn our focus to the government and SMBs and show them the benefits of information and communications technologies (ICT). The reseller channel is the main way to touch SMBs so we are also going to invest in our channels, particularly through the SMB Select program,” said Dr. Tatchapol Poshyanonda, Managing Director of Cisco Thailand.
“Cisco has technology solutions that can be a catalyst for national transformation. Cisco has a great track record of helping economies transform through technology and we feel we can add tremendous value to Thailand. Just last month, Cisco signed a strategic agreement with Prince Abdulaziz Bin Musaed Economic City in Saudi Arabia to help the city utilise information and communications technology (ICT) to transform it into one of the largest logistics hubs in the Middle East,” he added.
The second focus area for Cisco is the SMB sector. “The SMB segment in Thailand is fast-growing and extends across almost all industries. SMBs contribute almost half of the national GDP so if Cisco can help them to become more competitive with ICT solutions, we will be making another positive contribution to the country. One way they can benefit is by using ICT to plug into global supply chains thus extending their reach regionally and globally,” said Dr Tatchapol.
Cisco has also been investing in developing more tailored solutions for SMBs, such as the Smart Business Communications System, and also, in expanding its channel partner base to more effectively reach the SMBs. There are now 57 SMB Select partners in Thailand the company will continue to look for more resellers to join the program. SMB Select is a specialised certification which Cisco developed for resellers in the SMB space. Cisco has around 500 Select partners across Asia-Pacific currently.
