THAI entered a Block Space Agreement (BSA) with Southern Air (SAI), utilizing Boeing 777-200LRF aircraft to provide cargo freighter service. THAI is the first air carrier in Asia and Southeast Asia to conduct freighter operations with the Boeing 777-200LRF equipped with GE90-110B1 engines. This aircraft type is environmentally friendly, certified for noise control standards, which makes it suitable for service to various airports, as it is free of noise pollution limitations. A total of 102 metric tons of cargo may be transported per flight, carrying up to 37 pallets of cargo with a bulk cargo area of 17 cubic meter. The extensive cargo door enables acceptance of particularly large shipments, suitable for special care shipping such as live animals, dangerous goods, fresh produce like vegetables, fruits, flowers, and IT products that include computer chips and hard-disk parts.
The Boeing 777-200LRF can serve the increasing market demand in cargo delivery from Thailand and the Asia-Pacific region to Europe, as the world economies recover. This freighter aircraft will enhance the strength of THAI Cargo by providing more cargo space, in addition to the existing compartment underneath the passenger cabin, as well as offer faster service and more convenient shipments.
THAI Cargo estimated that the Boeing 777-200LRF would help increase the total freight income to 24,120 million Baht or 31% in 2010, with a 53.6% Freight Load Factorม by increasing cargo spaces through Block Space Agreement (BSA) in the future. The operating results obtained from utilizing the Boeing 777-200LRF will be used for cargo aircraft procurement planning. This significant expansion ensures that THAI’s new service will satisfy customer demand in cargo delivery to comply with THAI Cargo’s promise to “Always deliver the best.”
