U3 Powered USB Smart Dives Running Trend Micro Antivirus Technology Allow Consumers to Compute Without the Threat of Data Being Compromised by Viruses, Network Worms or Spyware
U3 GLOBAL DEVELOPER SUMMIT, SAN JOSE, Calif., June 9, 2005 — U3? LLC, today announced that leading antivirus and Internet content security provider Trend Micro, Inc., intends to support its smart drive computing platform. Trend Micro’s customized security application for the U3 smart drive computing platform will enable users to scan their U3 powered USB smart drives and host PCs for infected files. Trend Micro will demonstrate the new application at U3’s first annual Global Developer Summit, which begins today at the San Jose Marriott.
U3 powered USB smart drives transform the USB flash drive into a private, portable and protected workspace that simply plugs into any PC running Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Users can access personal applications and data from their smart drive through a user-friendly interface, called the U3 Launchpad, making computing more mobile and secure. The U3 smart drive computing platform is designed to leave the host computer unaltered when the U3 powered USB smart drive is removed, and the user has full confidence that no personal information has been left behind.
“Enterprises and consumers regularly fight viruses, network worms and spyware within corporate intranets and on home PCs, but increasingly they must also protect mobile devices,” said Raimund Genes, president of Trend Micro European Operations and Incubation Projects. “Every entry point may pose a potential vulnerability, and Trend Micro is pleased to support proactive technology organizations looking to reduce the security risk to their customers. We look forward to deployments of Trend Micro’s security solutions on U3 powered USB smart drives.”
“Industry-wide, Trend Micro is recognized as a leader in network antivirus and Internet content security software and services,” said Kate Purmal, chief executive officer of U3. “Porting Trend Micro’s technology to the U3 smart drive computing platform will make U3 powered USB smart drives very secure. Say goodbye to the fear of losing data on a smart drive to hackers and other predators."
Trend Micro intends to make its antivirus security technology available to OEMs this fall.
