The FTI, TCC, TBA, TNSC, TMA, and FeTCO held a joint press conference providing details on the “Mr. Anand Panyarachun and Peace-Making in the South” dinner discussion, to be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at the Grand Hall of the Imperial Queen’ s Park Hotel. The event will raise funds from the private sector to help the families who are suffering due to the southern unrest. The event is also aimed making more widely known to Thai society the progress and facts concerning the affected southern areas and enable attendees to help out their fellow Thais.
The joint organizing committee talked about the origins of this event: “This event has its roots in the successes of various other projects conducted to raise funds within the private sector to help provide relief to the people who’ve been suffering from the southern unrest since the end of 2003. Various activities including concerts, a charity walk, and souvenir sales have been held. Nevertheless the private sector is still concerned about the situation, which hasn’t yet been brought back to normal. Hence these leading institutions in the private sector again have decided to hold a fundraising activity to raise additional assistance for the sufferers in the affected areas. All the proceeds, after expenses, will be presented to the NRC so to be used in reconciliation and relief activities for people affected by the unrest.”
The dinner discussion entitled “Mr. Anand Panyarachun and Peace-Making in the South” will be kept simple. Former Thai PM Mr. Anand Panyarachun, who’s also the chair of the NRC. will kindly give a special address, clarifying the facts regarding the affected areas and relief measures being undertaken. There’ll also be an exhibition displaying the activities carried out by the private sector to make peace in the south.
