The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), has announced that Dr. Jean Holder, the former secretary general and an honorary member of the Board of Directors, will represent the regional tourism body on the Board of Directors of the Cricket World Cup 2007.
The CTO ministers and directors meeting at the recent 28th Annual Caribbean Tourism Conference (CTC-28) in St. Thomas, USVI, asked Dr. Holder to continue representing the CTO on the board which is overseeing preparations for the 2007 International Cricket Council (ICC)'s Cricket World Cup in the Caribbean.
"We are pleased to announce that the former secretary general, Dr. Jean Holder, has agreed to continue serving as the CTO representative of the Cricket World Cup 2007 board of directors," said Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace, who recently replaced Dr. Holder as the region's top tourism public servant.
"Having served as CTO's secretary general for 30 years, Dr. Holder has a keen understanding of the industry's needs for this major event and we are confident that he will carry out the mandate given to him by the ministers and board of directors effectively," Mr. Vanderpool-Wallace added.
The mandate given to Dr. Holder is that the region must maximise the economic returns from the Cricket World Cup and that the economic benefits from Cricket World Cup should filter through to all levels of entrepreneurship throughout the nine hosting countries and the rest of the Caribbean.
A sub-committee of ministers was also established to look at the World Cup with a similar mandate to ensure maximum benefits from the event for the members and the countries that will host matches.
