Bangkok--10 Jul--SET
By creatively increasing library use and promoting reading generally, Khon Kaen University Central Library and Chiang Mai University’s Faculty of Business Administration Library won the “Dream Library” competition, organized by The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET). While they took home THB100,000 each and a field trip to Singapore, 10 other contestants received secondary awards.
SET’s Capital Market Academy, as part of its reading promotion campaign, organized the competition for all educational institutions that have received a SET Corner from the Exchange, SET Chairman of Capital Market Education, Punsak Vejanurug, stated.
“Between March and May, 2006, students and librarians from 48 libraries proposed their ‘Dream Libraries’, to increase library use and spread capital market information,” Mr. Punsak added.
The winning institutional proposal went to the Central Library at Khon Kaen University, which presented a stimulating and inspiring project to attract more people to the library, while promoting reading among students and faculty. It also intends to initiate and evaluate a capital market publicity project.
The winning faculty proposal went to the Faculty of Business Administration Library at Chiang Mai University, which constructed a participatory program for library visitors, featuring seminars, book talk, web contests, using the SET database, ‘Living & Colorful Library’ and literacy-enhancing activities.
Aside from these major winners, five central libraries and five faculty libraries received secondary prizes. For example, their librarians will accompany the 11 SET Corner staff on their impending Singapore field trip.
Since 2004, SET has established SET Corners at 80 educational institutions nationwide, offering printed, audio and electronic media, together with information from listed companies and other relevant organizations. Thirty-five more institutions will receive SET Corners this year, to provide better public access to financial information.
