SETTRADE and Mahidol U announce national youth music competition

Thai youth up to 25 years old are invited to join the 11th SETTRADE Youth Music Competition of Thailand, co-hosted by SETTRADE.Com Co., Ltd. (SETTRADE) and Mahidol University’s College of Music. The contest, with prizes totaling over THB 600,000.
“This event promotes Thai youth and culture by giving musically-gifted kids the opportunity to display their talent,” said SETTRADE.Com CEO Ms. Chanisa Chutipat. “It’s SETTRADE.Com’s way to contribute to society through something other than our business providing online trading facilities.”
The fourth annual collaboration between SETTRADE.Com and Mahidol University, the competition draws at least 500 applicants each year, with a growing number from outside Bangkok. Last year saw a 20% increase in provincial contestants.
“This is a great opportunity for players of traditional and international instruments like pin-pia (northern harp), pin-can (northeastern harp), and pong-lang (northeastern xylophone),” said Dr. Sugree Charoensook, contest chairman and Mahidol University College of Music director.
“It puts on stage a variety of musical performances that blend the beauty of the instruments with human voices. The experience the contestants gain may lead to future careers in music,” added Dr. Sugree.
