Nudging the Government for supporting Thai clinical researchers to take certification exam
At the Army Club, the International Clinical Research Collaboration Center (ICRCC), WHO/TDR, and Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS) co-host Thailand’s first Professional Clinical Research Day. The objective is to brainstorm ideas on how to improve standards on conducting clinical research in Thailand. Nearly clinical researchers from all over Thailand attend the event and share their experiences which will lead to a significant development in clinical research expertise.
Dr. Thomas L. Adams, Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Clinical Professionals (ACRP), informed that ACRP will host a seminar on clinical research which can be watched worldwide via the internet on December 19, 2007. The content will be about the clinical research certification exams. Those interested can register via email to [email protected] and more details are also available at www.acrpnet.org .
Dr. Adams also stated that currently the whole world is very much aware about the importance of clinical research standards. Various associations of clinical investigator and research nurse have been established in more than 40 countries. Moreover, Taiwan has claimed to support every investigator to take exam and be certified within the next 2 years.
Dr. Kitima Yuthavong, Deputy Director of TCELS said that Thailand has many skillful clinical research investigators, but most of them are not associated. Therefore, the event today also aims to inspire Thai clinical professionals to group up and establish associations. This would be one of the initial steps to propose for government budget in support to improve our standards by certifying our clinical research personnel.
Prof. Thira Sirisanthana, Chairman of ICRCC, discussed about the future of clinical research that he personnally believe clinical research can actually become a profession in Thailand as we are internationally recognized as skillful, as well as ethical, researchers. So, this should be the prefect time that Thai reserachers get associated or establish professional club to further develop the industry,
